The D'Addario EXL160-5 is the 5-string version of D'Addario's top-selling heavy gauge bass set, the EXL160. If you play a 5-string bass and want a reliable, widely trusted medium-gauge string, this is one of the most straightforward choices out there. The medium gauge 50–135 set is built for long scale basses (up to 36¼" scale length), and the .135 low B gives you a firm, defined feel without being unwieldy.
These are round wound strings with a nickel-plated steel wrap wire over a hexagonally shaped, high carbon steel core. The hex core lets the wrap wire grip tightly, which helps with dimensional stability, intonation accuracy, and consistency from string to string. The nickel-plated steel winding produces a bright, articulate tone that works well with magnetic pickups and suits a wide range of playing styles. Individual gauges are .050, .070, .085, .105, and .135. These strings are made in the USA at D'Addario's New York production facility.
