The V-12 is cut on a longer palette with a thicker heel and a slightly thicker tip than the Traditional. That longer palette means more of the reed is actively vibrating, which produces a fuller, richer tone. The thicker tip also adds some body to the attack and helps the reed hold up longer over time. The cane itself is grown in Vandoren's own fields in the south of France, giving them tight control over the raw material from the start.
