A Rare MIM Tele in One of Fender's Most Elusive Colors

Blue Agave. If you know, you know. Fender offered this color on its Mexican-made Standard Series guitars for a limited window in the early 2000s, and players who missed it have been hunting for it ever since. There's something about that cool, medium blue metallic finish — understated enough for a recording session, distinctive enough to turn heads at a gig — that just works on a Telecaster. This one has been played and loved, and now it's ready for its next chapter.

This Fender Standard Telecaster MIM was built in 2001 at Fender's Ensenada, Mexico facility. It carries all the hallmarks of the early-2000s Standard Series: solid alder body, maple neck with a comfortable Modern C profile, maple fingerboard, and a pair of Standard Tele single-coil pickups that deliver the bright, cutting snap the Telecaster is famous for. This is a working musician's guitar — honest, reliable, and purpose-built for real playing.

If you've been searching for a used MIM Tele in a finish that's harder to find than a parking spot at a Springsteen show, this could be the one. It suits players who want a straightforward, no-fuss Telecaster with a little visual personality to go along with the tone.

This Fender Standard Telecaster is in Very Good condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has a scratch noted on back and small indent noted on back of neck, small amount of play wear. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.

Solid Alder Body with That Hard-to-Find Blue Agave Finish

The Standard Series Telecaster is built around a solid alder body — not a laminate, not a semi-hollow. Alder has long been a core Fender tone wood for good reason: it delivers a balanced frequency response with a slight mid-range emphasis that pairs naturally with the bright character of Tele pickups. Together, you get that classic Tele snap without things getting too harsh.

The Blue Agave polyester finish is one of those colors Fender only offered for a short stretch on its Mexican Standard Series, making surviving examples genuinely hard to come by. It reads as a rich, medium blue metallic in most lighting — cool and clean without being flashy.

Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and a C-Shape That Fits Most Hands

The one-piece maple neck carries Fender's Modern C profile — a shape that splits the difference between old-school chunky and sleek contemporary. The back of the neck wears a satin polyurethane finish, which tends to feel faster and less "sticky" than a full gloss back, especially once a guitar has some hours on it. The 9.5" fingerboard radius and 1.650" nut width keep things accessible whether you're playing open chords or chasing lead lines up the neck.

The maple fingerboard on this version adds a bit of warmth and smoothness compared to the maple-board variant — players often find it has a slightly rounder attack that rounds off the Telecaster's naturally bright edge just enough without losing any of the snap.

Two Standard Tele Single-Coils and a String-Through Bridge

A pair of Standard Tele single-coil pickups (neck and bridge) run through a 3-position blade switch with master volume and master tone controls. Position 1 is the bridge pickup — the snappy, bright, classic Tele voice. Position 3 is the neck — rounder, warmer, more jazzy. Position 2 blends both, which can range from twangy country to a surprisingly usable clean rhythm tone depending on your settings.

The Standard 6-saddle string-through-body bridge gives you individual intonation adjustment on each string and channels the string tension directly into the body for solid sustain and resonance. Chrome hardware throughout, with Fender/Ping cast sealed tuning machines that hold tune reliably under normal use.
