A Piece of Ibanez History, Ready to Play Again

Before there was an RG series, there was the Roadstar II — and the RG135 sits right at that fascinating crossroads where Ibanez was quietly building some of the most player-friendly guitars to ever come out of Japan. Made in 1986 at the FujiGen Gakki factory in Nagano, this is the kind of guitar that reminds you why the Japanese production era carries such a strong reputation. It's a proper vintage piece, not a display item — it plays, and it plays well.

This white RG135 has the classic Roadstar look: rounded body edges that feel natural in your hands, a color-matched headstock, and a three-single-coil pickup layout that gives you plenty of tonal flexibility. It's a snapshot of where Ibanez was headed right before the modern RG took over — a guitar with a personality all its own.

This is a used guitar with honest road wear, professionally set up and ready to go. If you've been hunting for a well-priced piece of mid-'80s Japanese electric, this one deserves a serious look.

This Ibanez Roadstar II RG135 is in Good condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has a Dings, Scratches, and moderate play wear noted on the guitar. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.

Basswood Body, Maple Neck — Built for the Stage

The RG135 is built around a solid basswood body with Ibanez's distinctive rounded-edge contouring — a shape that feels noticeably different from the sharper, more aggressive body carve the modern RG would later adopt. Basswood was a deliberate choice for Ibanez in this era: it's a lightweight, resonant wood that sits in a comfortable middle ground tonally.

The bolt-on maple neck is fast and comfortable, paired with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. That 22-fret count is actually notable — most Roadstar and later RG models ran 24 frets, making the RG135 one of a relatively small number of models in the line with this configuration. The matching painted headstock is a detail that's easy to appreciate up close.

Triple Single-Coil Pickups and a Powerocker Tremolo

Three pickguard-mounted Ibanez single-coil pickups give the RG135 its voice — a configuration shared with only a handful of RG-lineage guitars. Controls are straightforward: a master volume, master tone, a 5-way lever pickup selector, and a phase-switching mini toggle for the middle pickup. It's a versatile setup that covers clean tones, bluesy bite, and everything between.

The Powerocker tremolo bridge handles vibrato duties. It's a synchronized unit in the Fender-style tradition, giving you smooth pitch movement without the complexity of a locking system. For players who want expressive whammy use without locking nut hassle, that's a practical feature.

Made in Japan, 1986 — FujiGen Gakki

The serial number D860695 decodes to April 1986 production at FujiGen Gakki — one of the most respected guitar factories in Japan during this era. FujiGen was responsible for building many of Ibanez's most celebrated instruments during the late 1970s through the 1980s, and the build quality reflects that reputation. This is a 1986 instrument that has aged into something worth owning and playing.

The RG135 was only produced in 1986 and 1987, with Japanese production wrapping after 1986 — making this a true first-run example of the model. After 1986, production shifted and the guitar's character changed with it.
