The RG135 is built around a solid basswood body with Ibanez's distinctive rounded-edge contouring — a shape that feels noticeably different from the sharper, more aggressive body carve the modern RG would later adopt. Basswood was a deliberate choice for Ibanez in this era: it's a lightweight, resonant wood that sits in a comfortable middle ground tonally.
The bolt-on maple neck is fast and comfortable, paired with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot position markers. That 22-fret count is actually notable — most Roadstar and later RG models ran 24 frets, making the RG135 one of a relatively small number of models in the line with this configuration.
