Speed, Sustain, and a Whole Lot of Attitude

If you've ever wanted a guitar that feels like it was built specifically for going fast and staying loud, the Schecter Banshee GT FR-S is worth a serious look. The "GT" in the name isn't just cosmetic — though the racing stripe across the Satin Charcoal Burst finish definitely earns its keep. This is a purpose-built machine: mahogany body with a flamed maple top, a set-through neck designed for extra sustain, and a pickup combination that handles anything from heavy chording to feedback-sustained lead lines that seem to go on forever.

The "S" in FR-S stands for Sustainiac — a neck pickup system that uses electromagnetic feedback to sustain notes and chords indefinitely on command. Pair that with a Floyd Rose Special "Hot Rod" locking tremolo and an EMG 81 in the bridge, and you have a guitar that's genuinely equipped for the demanding stuff: drop tunings, aggressive bends, whammy dive-bombs, and leads that float.

This used example is in Very Good condition and comes with a hardshell case. It shows a small amount of play wear and is missing the back plate — both noted in the store-provided description. A solid pickup for a well-specified instrument at a used price.

This Schecter Banshee GT FR-S is in Very Good condition. The guitar is fully functional, It has wear and back plate is missing.

Body and Construction Built for Performance

The Banshee GT FR-S is built around a solid mahogany body with a flamed maple top featuring a full-radius contour and Schecter's signature GT racing stripe — plus black 1-ply binding that tightens up the whole look. The finish is satin throughout, which keeps the guitar comfortable against your body during long sets.

The construction method is set-neck with ultra access — Schecter's term for an extended neck tenon that keeps the upper frets reachable without sacrificing the tonal coupling that set-neck designs are known for. You get more neck surface glued into the body, which translates to improved sustain and a tighter coupling between neck and body resonance.

Neck, Fretboard, and Playability

The neck is a 3-piece maple construction reinforced with carbon fiber rods for added stiffness and long-term stability. The Ultra-Thin U profile is exactly what it sounds like: slim front-to-back, measuring .748" at the first fret and .787" at the twelfth. Players who favor speed over a chunkier vintage feel will be right at home.

The ebony fretboard carries 24 extra-jumbo frets over a 14" radius — flatter than most vintage-spec guitars, which makes bending across the higher frets more consistent and less prone to fretting out. Offset Roman numeral inlays mark the positions. Nut width is 1.625", and the nut itself is a Floyd Rose locking nut, which is integral to the tremolo system's tuning stability.

Pickups and Electronics

The EMG 81 active humbucker in the bridge is a widely-used high-output pickup with ceramic magnets and tight low-end response — well-suited for heavy riffing and lead tones with definition. The neck position carries a Sustainiac pickup, which is a very different animal: rather than simply capturing string vibration, it actively drives the strings electromagnetically to sustain indefinitely. A 2-way on/off switch and a 3-way mode selector (Fundamental, Mix, Harmonic) give you control over how the sustain circuit behaves.

The pickup selector is a standard 3-way lever switch. Controls are volume, tone, and the Sustainiac switches. The active EMG requires a 9-volt battery, which is accessed via a clip-in compartment.

Bridge and Hardware

The Floyd Rose Special "Hot Rod" bridge is a Schecter-exclusive version of the Floyd Rose Special platform, featuring stainless steel appointments, a push-in tremolo arm, brass tremolo block, brass spring claw, and Floyd Rose noiseless springs. The locking tuners and locking nut work together with the double-locking system to keep the guitar in tune through aggressive tremolo use. Hardware is finished in black throughout.
