A Classic Late-'90s Squier with a Pickup Upgrade Already Done

If you were guitar shopping in the late '90s, you knew the Squier Standard series sat in a different league from the Affinity and Bullet lines. Thicker body, better hardware, and — in the case of this Double Fat — dual humbuckers in a Stratocaster package. This particular example, built in 1998 at the Cort factory in Indonesia, takes things a step further: someone along the way swapped in a pair of Lace Sensor pickups, giving this guitar a distinct character beyond its original spec.

This Squier Standard Double Fat Stratocaster is in Very Good condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has minor play wear noted and cosmetic imperfection at heel.. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.

The Double Fat Configuration

The "Double Fat" designation means exactly what it sounds like: two humbucking pickups, selected via a 3-position blade switch. Where the standard Fat Strat gave you HSS with 5-way switching, the Double Fat goes full HH — thicker, warmer output in both neck and bridge positions, with a classic Strat body underneath it all.

The installed Lace Sensor pickups are a notable departure from the factory ceramic humbuckers. Lace Sensors are known for their low hum and articulate, detailed response. Whatever color/model is installed here, the sonic character of this guitar reflects those aftermarket pickups — worth noting as you listen through photos or ask questions about the unit.

Neck, Scale, and Feel

The maple neck runs a full 25.5" scale length — the classic Fender measurement — with a 9.5" fingerboard radius and 21 frets. The maple fingerboard keeps the response bright and snappy, a nice contrast to the warmer HH pickup setup. Nut width is 1.650" (42mm), which sits right at the standard Fender spec and suits most players comfortably.

The neck profile is Squier's "Fast Action C" — a comfortable, familiar shape that doesn't fight you whether you're playing rhythm or leads. The skunk stripe runs down the back of the neck, as expected on maple-board models of this era.

Hardware and Construction

The body is a solid hardwood construction in a full-thickness 45mm Stratocaster shape, finished in British Racing Green with a polyurethane gloss coat. Chrome hardware throughout, including a 6-saddle synchronized tremolo and standard die-cast tuners. The 3-ply white pickguard with 11 holes is stock to the Double Fat configuration. A 4-bolt neck plate anchors the bolt-on neck joint.

This guitar was made at the Cort (Cor-Tek) factory in Indonesia — the "IC" prefix in the serial number IC98122463 confirms both factory and 1998 production year. The Standard series of this era was considered a solid step up from entry-level Squiers, with a full-thickness body and die-cast tuners as standard.
