Dave Grohl's Guitar, Within Reach

For years, if you wanted Dave Grohl's actual guitar — the Pelham Blue semi-hollow he's swung around stages with Foo Fighters since 2007 — you were looking at Gibson Custom Shop pricing or a white whale on the used market. The Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 changed that. Developed in collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, it combines the ES-335 body format with the Trini Lopez details Grohl specifically requested: bound diamond-shaped soundholes, a six-in-line Firebird-style headstock, and a one-piece mahogany neck with an elliptical C profile that feels chunky and substantial in the hand — built for rhythm playing but equally capable under lead work.

This particular DG-335 is a used example in Excellent condition, with original hardshell case included. Our tech will go through a full setup before it ships, so you're not getting a cold guitar off the shelf — you're getting one dialed in and ready to play.

This Epiphone Dave Grohl DG-335 is in Excellent condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has a Very Minor Play Wear. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.

The Body: Semi-Hollow with a Centerblock

The DG-335 is built around a layered maple and poplar body with a solid maple centerblock running through the middle. That centerblock is what separates a semi-hollow from a fully hollow guitar — it tightens up the low end, keeps feedback manageable at high volume, and gives the instrument the kind of focus you need when you're pushing a big amp hard. You still get the resonance and airiness that defines the ES format, but it stays controlled where it needs to.

The body shape is ES with Grohl's signature diamond-shaped soundholes in place of the standard f-holes — a design point pulled directly from the original 1967 Gibson Trini Lopez that inspired this whole lineage. Single-ply white binding runs along the top, back, soundholes, and fretboard. The body finish is gloss throughout.

The Neck and Fretboard

The one-piece mahogany neck is a departure from standard Epiphone ES construction, which typically uses a scarf-jointed two-piece neck. Here you get a single piece of mahogany shaped into Epiphone's Elliptical C profile — wider and rounder than the common SlimTaper you'd find on most Epiphone guitars. It fills the hand differently; players who like something to grip tend to appreciate it. The set-in neck joint connects it to the body at the 22nd fret.

The Indian laurel fingerboard runs a 12-inch radius, which is the same arc used on most Gibson guitars — flat enough to keep bends comfortable without fretting out, but with enough curve to make chord shapes feel natural. You get 22 medium jumbo frets, mother-of-pearl split diamond inlays, and a Graph Tech nut cut to 43mm (1.692") at the top end. Scale length is the standard Gibson 24.75 inches.

Pickups and Electronics

The standout spec on this guitar is the pickup set: a pair of Gibson USA Burstbucker humbuckers — the Burstbucker 2 in the neck position and the hotter Burstbucker 3 in the bridge. These aren't Epiphone-branded alternatives; they're the same pickups manufactured at Gibson's Nashville facility and spec'd by Grohl himself. The Burstbucker design uses Alnico 2 magnets and unbalanced coil windings that reference the original Patent Applied For humbuckers, which gives them a slightly open, airy character well-suited to the semi-hollow body.

The electronics package is assembled with CTS potentiometers and Mallory capacitors wired to a Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch and Switchcraft output jack. On the hardware side, you'll find a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge and LockTone stop-bar tailpiece — both in nickel — alongside Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners on the Trini Lopez-style headstock.
