A Martin That's Built to Be Played
There's something honest about the Martin D-X2E. It doesn't pretend to be something it's not — it's a hardworking, gig-ready dreadnought from one of the most storied names in acoustic guitars, priced for players who want real Martin quality without the four-digit sticker shock. The Brazilian rosewood-pattern HPL back and sides give it a striking look, and the satin spruce top keeps things classic and understated. Whether you're heading to an open mic or just need a reliable acoustic-electric for practice and smaller shows, this one is ready for the job.
This Martin D-X2E is in Very Good condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has a slight discoloration on side of body, small chip on headstock. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.
The D-X2E is part of Martin's X Series — guitars designed from the ground up for playability and durability. The high-pressure laminate (HPL) construction on the back and sides isn't a compromise; it's a deliberate choice that makes the guitar highly resistant to temperature and humidity swings, which is a real practical advantage for anyone who takes their guitar out of the house regularly.
Dreadnought Body, Martin Playability Upgrades
The D-X2E wears the iconic dreadnought body shape — full-sized, loud, and projective with strong bass response. Martin paired that with a set of modern playability refinements that make this guitar noticeably comfortable to play. The fingerboard is slightly thinner than a traditional Martin, with a gently beveled comfort edge along both sides, and string spacing has been refined for a smoother feel across the board. The bridge contour has also been modernized for a cleaner hand position.
The neck is shaped in Martin's PA (Performing Artist) profile with a High-Performance Taper — a neck shape that players tend to find fast and comfortable without feeling too slim or modern. Scale length is 25.4", and nut width is 1 3/4". The fingerboard and bridge are select hardwood, with Style 28 dot inlays in a faux abalone pattern. There are 20 frets total, joining the body at the 14th fret.
The Top and Bracing
The top is spruce, finished in a hand-rubbed satin that keeps the surface natural-feeling under your forearm. Martin fitted the top with a scalloped X-brace pattern — the same bracing approach used across Martin's lineup — which helps give the D-X2E a more open, resonant character than you might expect from a guitar at this price. The rosette is a single-ring abalone pattern, adding a quiet bit of elegance to an otherwise understated instrument.
The back and sides are Brazilian rosewood-pattern high-pressure laminate (HPL). It's worth being clear about what HPL is: it's a composite material that uses a photographic finish to replicate the look of traditional woods. It's not Brazilian rosewood, and it doesn't sound like it — but it's genuinely tough, stable, and looks great. The satin finish on the back and sides matches the top nicely.
Martin E-1 Electronics
Plug in and you've got Martin's own E-1 electronics system, which includes volume, tone, and phase controls, plus a built-in chromatic tuner. It's a clean, functional system — nothing complicated, nothing fussy. You can dial in a solid amplified tone and get on with playing. The phase control is a useful addition for fighting feedback in louder environments.
Other hardware details: the saddle is White Tusq, bridge pins are white plastic with black dots, pickguard is faux tortoise, and the tuners are satin chrome closed-gear machines. Neck joint is a Mortise and Tenon — a traditional and solid connection method. The guitar was made in Mexico.
