A Vintage-Inspired 000 with Real Acoustic Chops
There's a certain body size that acoustic players keep coming back to — not too big, not too small, just right for the couch, the studio, or sitting across from someone at an open mic. The 000 shape has been that guitar for a long time, and the Blueridge BR-43 Contemporary Series leans into that heritage with a genuinely traditional build at a price that doesn't require a second mortgage.
At the heart of the BR-43 is a solid Sitka spruce top paired with forward-shifted scalloped bracing — construction you'd typically expect on guitars costing quite a bit more. Pair that with mahogany back and sides, a dovetail neck joint, bone nut and saddle, and a set of nickel-plated open-back tuners, and you've got a guitar that was built with real intention.
This is a used example from our inventory, so you're getting solid performance at an even more accessible price point. Whether you're a player who wants a trustworthy acoustic you don't have to baby, or you're looking for something with genuine vintage-inspired character, the BR-43 delivers where it counts.
This Blueridge BR-43 Contemporary Series 000 is in Very Good condition. The guitar is fully functional and will go through a full tech set up prior to shipping. It has a normal play wear. Please review the photos carefully for full condition.
Solid Top, Traditional Build
The solid Sitka spruce top is the BR-43's calling card. Sitka is a workhorse tonewood — strong, lightweight, and responsive across a wide dynamic range — and Blueridge backs it up with forward-shifted scalloped bracing drawn from prewar construction methods. That bracing placement shifts the brace closer to the soundhole, which tends to open up the bass response and give the top more room to breathe.
The dovetail neck joint is another detail worth noting. It's the traditional method for attaching a neck to a body, and it's usually found on more expensive instruments. Here it gives the BR-43 long-term structural integrity and contributes to solid sustain and resonance. A bone nut and saddle round out the acoustic chain — natural bone is denser and harder than plastic, which translates to better string vibration transfer and cleaner open-string notes.
Mahogany Body and a Neck Built for Playing
The mahogany back and sides give the BR-43 a warm, focused character that complements the Sitka top's brightness. Mahogany tends to emphasize the mids and add a directness to the tone that works especially well for fingerstyle playing and singer-songwriter accompaniment — you hear every note clearly without a lot of extra wash.
The slim mahogany neck with its low-profile shape keeps things comfortable across styles and hand sizes. The 25.6" scale length is slightly longer than some traditional 000s, which adds a touch of tension and definition to each note. The rosewood fingerboard and bridge feel smooth under the fingers, and the 1-11/16" nut width gives you enough room for clear chord voicings without feeling wide.
The Classic 000 Shape in Practice
The 000 (Triple-O) body is narrower and shallower than a dreadnought, which makes it easier to handle for longer sessions and more comfortable for players who want the guitar to tuck in close. It's a shape associated with fingerpickers and folk players, but it handles flatpicking just fine — the balanced frequency response means nothing sticks out awkwardly in any playing style.
The natural high-gloss finish lets the spruce and mahogany grain show through clearly, and the mother-of-pearl headstock inlay gives it a polished, traditional look. The nickel-plated 14:1 open-back tuners keep tuning stable and have a smooth, vintage feel that matches the guitar's overall aesthetic.
