It's a 6-string banjo tuned exactly like a standard guitar — same tuning, same neck feel, same muscle memory. You just pick it up and start playing. The banjo does the rest.

Built Around the Banjo Sound You Know
The Backwoods 6 is centered around an 11" Remo head — the same brand you'd find on serious drum kits — that delivers the crisp, bright snap that makes a banjo sound like a banjo. The mahogany body provides the resonance and warmth that rounds out those highs into something full and musical rather than just bright.
The mahogany resonator adds projection, throwing your sound out into the room rather than back at your lap. Whether you're sitting on a porch or on a stage, the Backwoods 6 carries well.
A Guitar Neck on a Banjo Body
The C-shaped mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard and pearl dot inlays will feel immediately familiar to guitar players. The 25" scale length and 1-11/16" nut width match common guitar dimensions closely enough that your technique transfers directly. Twenty-one frets give you plenty of range, and the 16" fretboard radius keeps single-note runs comfortable.
Sealed die-cast tuners and a graphite bridge round out the hardware side — reliable and low-maintenance, which is exactly what you want from a hybrid instrument you're going to gig or travel with.
