An Amp-Free Reverb Room — Built Right Into the Guitar
Picture this: you sit down at home, pick up your guitar, and the room suddenly sounds bigger. Not because you turned on an amp or fired up a reverb pedal — the guitar itself is doing it. That's exactly what the Yamaha TAS1E TransAcoustic delivers. The onboard TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 technology converts your string vibrations into effects-processed signals, then feeds them back into the guitar body via an internal actuator. The result is reverb and chorus that resonates through the spruce top and mahogany body as naturally as the acoustic tone itself.
The TAS1E is the second-generation entry point into Yamaha's TransAcoustic lineup — refined with fuller volume, a sleeker modern design, and newly optimized effects over its predecessor. It also functions as a standard acoustic-electric guitar, so plugging into an amp or PA for a gig is always an option. This is a guitar built equally for the living room and the stage.
The Ultra Marine finish is one of four colorways offered on the TAS1E, bringing a bold blue gloss to a body that might otherwise blend into the corner. Whether that's a reason to buy it or just a bonus depends on you — but it does make it a little harder to leave sitting in the case.
Concert Body with a Solid Sitka Spruce Top
The TAS1E uses a concert-style body — a touch more compact than a dreadnought — which keeps things comfortable for both strumming and fingerstyle playing. The focused, articulate character of the concert shape pairs naturally with the TransAcoustic effects, letting the reverb bloom without muddying the low end.
The solid Sitka spruce top is the acoustic heart of the instrument. Sitka spruce is a go-to tonewood for good reason: it's responsive across a wide dynamic range, bright enough to cut through the mix, and it opens up with more play time. Paired with mahogany back and sides, the TAS1E leans warm and midrange-forward — a classic combination that works across genres.
Walnut Fingerboard, Mahogany Neck, and a Comfortable Feel
The mahogany neck feeds into a walnut fingerboard — a combination you'll notice right away if you're used to rosewood. Walnut has a smooth, slightly darker character, and players often find it comfortable for extended playing sessions. The nut width comes in at 1-3/4" (44mm) with a 25 9/16" scale length, landing it in familiar territory for players coming from standard-sized acoustics.
The neck finish is matte, which keeps things from feeling sticky after longer playing sessions. The body carries a gloss finish in Ultra Marine, highlighted by a blue ripple pattern sound hole inlay — a detail that's subtle but distinctly Yamaha. Tuners are die-cast chrome, and both the bridge and saddle are walnut, matching the fingerboard.
TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 — Reverb and Chorus Without the Cable
The TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 system gives you independent reverb and chorus controls right on the guitar body. The controls are designed to be small and unobtrusive — Yamaha intentionally kept them compact to minimize the amount of body wood removed, which helps preserve the guitar's natural acoustic character. Two AA batteries power the system, and there's a line out for connecting to an amp or PA when needed.
The TAS1E does not include Bluetooth functionality (that's reserved for the TAS1 C). What you get here is clean, focused: two great-sounding effects, simple controls, and a guitar you can play anywhere without hauling extra gear. For practicing, writing, or casual performing, that's a genuinely useful setup.
