The Tuner That Just Lives on Your Pedalboard
You know the one. Every pedalboard you've ever seen at an open mic, a bar gig, a rehearsal studio — there's a good chance a Boss TU-3 is sitting at the front of the chain. There's a reason for that. It's not flashy, it doesn't do anything except tune your instrument, and it does that one job with absolutely no drama.
The TU-3 is the successor to the TU-2, which was Boss's world-best-selling stage tuner. It keeps everything that made the TU-2 a fixture on pedalboards everywhere and tightens it up — a cleaner 21-segment LED display, tuning accuracy down to ±1 cent, and a High Brightness mode that makes the readout visible even in direct outdoor sunlight. It also automatically mutes your signal the moment you stomp it on, so you can tune silently between songs without any awkward signal bleed.
Whether you're a bassist tuning a six-string or a guitarist who likes to drop-tune regularly, the TU-3 has a mode for you. It's a straightforward, durable pedal that earns its footprint on any board.
Multiple Tuning Modes for Any Player
The TU-3 gives you three tuning modes to work with. Chromatic mode lets you tune by note name — useful for any instrument that can plug into a 1/4" jack across its tuning range of C0 to C8. Guitar and Bass modes let you tune by string number instead, which can be faster on stage when you know exactly which string needs attention. Guitar mode covers 6- and 7-string guitars; Bass mode handles 4-, 5-, and 6-string basses.
If you play in alternate or drop tunings, Guitar Flat mode has you covered for drop tunings up to six semitones below standard pitch. The Accu-Pitch function gives you a clear visual confirmation the moment your string hits the target pitch — handy when you're tuning fast between songs and don't want to second-guess yourself.
A Display You Can Actually Read on Stage
The 21-segment LED meter gives you smooth, readable pitch movement in real time. Two display modes are available: Cent mode behaves like a traditional needle-style display, while Stream mode shows pitch movement directionally. For outdoor gigs or brightly lit stages where standard LED brightness gets washed out, the High Brightness mode kicks the display up a level so you can still read it clearly.
The Note Name Indicator displays the note name alongside the meter, which is especially useful when you're in Chromatic mode and tuning by ear or checking intonation across the neck.
Buffered Bypass and Pedalboard Power
The TU-3 uses buffered bypass. When the tuner is engaged, your signal is muted for silent tuning. When it's bypassed, your signal runs through Boss's high-quality buffer circuit — this helps maintain signal integrity across long cable runs and through multiple pedals in your chain, which is worth noting if you run a lot of gear between your guitar and amp.
One genuinely useful feature: with an optional PSA series AC adapter and daisy chain cable (sold separately), the TU-3 can supply power for up to seven other Boss compact pedals. If you're running a board of Boss effects, that's a clean way to simplify your power situation.
