A Full-Sounding Acoustic Guitar — No Amp Required
Ever wish you could dial in a little reverb or chorus at home without dragging out a pedalboard and amp? That's exactly the problem the Yamaha TAG1E was built to solve. Thanks to Yamaha's TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 technology, onboard reverb and chorus effects resonate directly through the guitar's own body — no external gear, no cables, no fuss. It really does sound like a room-filling acoustic, even when you're just sitting on the couch.
The TAG1E TBL wears a striking Translucent Black gloss finish that lets the natural character of the wood show underneath, giving it a look that stands apart from your typical dreadnought. Under the surface, you've got a solid Sitka spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides — a combination that's known for delivering warm, focused midrange with good projection, and one that suits strumming and fingerpicking alike.
This is a second-generation TransAcoustic, and Yamaha put real work into refining it: fuller body volume, a modernized design, and newly optimized effects. If you've been curious about the TransAcoustic experience, the TAG1E is the straightforward entry point — all the essentials, nothing you don't need.
The TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 — Effects That Live Inside the Guitar
The core idea behind TransAcoustic technology is that the guitar itself becomes the speaker for your effects. String vibrations are converted into electrical signals, processed through effects, then fed to an internal actuator mounted inside the body. That actuator physically vibrates the guitar, causing your reverb and chorus to radiate right out of the soundhole alongside your natural acoustic tone.
The TAG1E's SYSTEM70 gives you two effects — Reverb and Chorus — controlled via simple onboard knobs. Crank the reverb for a spacious, hall-like sound while practicing; dial in a touch of chorus for a richer texture when working through a chord progression. The controls stay out of the way, and the effect levels are adjustable so you're always in charge of how much atmosphere you're adding.
The guitar also connects to an amplifier via the line out jack, so you can take the same TransAcoustic-processed signal to a stage or a recording setup when the time calls for it. Battery operation uses two AA batteries — no power adapter needed.
Solid Top, Mahogany Body, and a Comfortable Neck
The solid Sitka spruce top gives the TAG1E a lively, responsive feel — it's the kind of top that opens up over time and rewards regular playing. Paired with mahogany back and sides, the overall voice leans warm and focused, with a midrange character that works well for both rhythm playing and song accompaniment. The dreadnought proportions deliver good volume and a full low end without being boomy.
The mahogany neck has a satin finish, which keeps things smooth and fast under the fretting hand without the sticky feel of a gloss neck. The walnut fingerboard and walnut bridge add a natural, slightly warm tonal quality, and walnut's tight grain gives it a smooth playing surface. Nut width is 1 3/4 inches (44mm) — a comfortable, modern feel that suits a wide range of hand sizes. Scale length is 25 9/16 inches (650mm), standard for a dreadnought and familiar territory for most players.
Design Details Worth Noticing
The Translucent Black finish — gloss on the body, satin on the neck — lets the wood grain show through in a way that makes this guitar visually interesting without being flashy. The body features black binding, and the soundhole rosette uses a blue ripple inlay pattern that adds a subtle pop of color against the dark finish. The walnut fretboard is left clean with no fret markers on the face, keeping the look uncluttered — side dots handle navigation.
Die-cast chrome tuners and a transparent pickguard round out the hardware. Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 Bronze Light strings come installed from the factory, so you're ready to go right out of the box.
