One Guitar. A Whole Studio Worth of Ideas.
Picture this: it's late, you don't want to drag out an amp, and you've got a chord progression nagging at you. With most acoustic guitars, you just play it and move on. With the Yamaha TAG3 C, you hit a button and suddenly there's reverb washing over the room — all coming straight out of the guitar itself. No cables, no pedals, no amp. Just the guitar doing something acoustic guitars aren't supposed to be able to do.
The TAG3 C is the second-generation TransAcoustic guitar from Yamaha, and it's a significant step forward from the original concept. Where the first-gen models offered reverb and chorus, the TAG3 C adds delay, a built-in looper, and Bluetooth connectivity — all packed into a cutaway dreadnought built with all-solid wood construction. It's the kind of guitar that rewards curious players who like to experiment, layer ideas, and have everything they need in one place.
The Sand Burst finish catches the light in a warm, understated way, and the guitar underneath is genuinely well-made — solid Sitka spruce over solid mahogany, ebony fingerboard and bridge, open-gear tuners. The technology is the headline, but the instrument holds up on its own merits too.
TransAcoustic Technology: How It Actually Works
The trick behind the TAG3 C is a pair of actuators mounted inside the guitar body. When you play, your string vibrations are converted into electrical signals, processed through the onboard effects engine, and fed back into those actuators — which then vibrate the guitar body itself. The result is reverb, chorus, or delay that literally radiates out of the soundhole, blending with your natural acoustic tone. You're not hearing it through a speaker; you're hearing it through the wood.
The TAG3 C is the first TransAcoustic to offer all three effects — reverb, chorus, and delay — along with a built-in looper and a chromatic tuner. Four streamlined buttons on the upper bout control everything, and a tap sensor on the body triggers the looper. You can also connect to the free TAG Remote app (iOS and Android) to fine-tune effect parameters, change effect types, and manage saved loop phrases — all wirelessly via Bluetooth.
Bluetooth does double duty here: in addition to app control, it lets you stream audio from your phone directly through the guitar body, so you can play along to a backing track or your own playlist without plugging into anything. The built-in rechargeable Li-ion battery provides up to 5.5 hours of playtime and recharges via a magnetic connection.
All-Solid Construction That Can Stand on Its Own
Yamaha didn't cut corners on the acoustic side of this guitar. The top is solid Sitka spruce — responsive and clear, with good projection for a dreadnought-cutaway body. The back and sides are solid mahogany, which adds warmth and keeps the midrange focused. Together, they give you a tonally balanced instrument that sounds honest and full even with all the effects switched off.
The neck is mahogany with a comfortable profile and a matte finish on the back — one of those details that players tend to notice and appreciate during long sessions. The ebony fingerboard is smooth and fast, with a 15.75" radius that's player-friendly across the whole neck. Scale length is 25 9/16" (650mm) with a 1 3/4" (44mm) nut width. The Venetian cutaway gives you easy access to the upper frets, which pairs nicely with the looper functionality — great for building layers and then soloing over them.
The electronics include the TransAcoustic SYSTEM76 pickup system, which means you can also plug into a PA or amp via the line-out jack when you need to fill a bigger room. A soundhole dial lets you adjust the line-out volume independently. Open-gear tuners in champagne gold round out the appointments with a classic look that works well against the Sand Burst gloss finish.
