The D'Addario EXP120 is a set of coated nickel wound electric guitar strings in Super Light gauge (9–42). They're built on the same foundation as D'Addario's popular EXL120 set, but with EXP micro-coating applied to the wrap wire before winding — giving you a string that behaves and feels like an uncoated set while lasting significantly longer.
The coating process is what sets EXP strings apart. Rather than coating the finished string, D'Addario applies a micro-fine layer to the wrap wire prior to assembly. The result is a round-wound string with no added bulk or dead feel — just extended life. The plain steel strings use a compound tin-plating process for corrosion resistance across the full set. The hex-shaped, high-carbon steel core is drawn from D'Addario's own New York facility for consistency and pitch stability.
