A Dreadnought That Brings the Room With It
Ever wish you could practice with reverb and chorus without dragging out a pedalboard or powering up an amp? That's the whole idea behind the Yamaha TAG1E. It's a full-size dreadnought acoustic-electric with Yamaha's second-generation TransAcoustic technology built right in — meaning the effects come out of the guitar itself, not a speaker cabinet. You dial in some reverb, strum a chord, and the guitar body resonates with it. It's a genuinely different experience.
The TAG1E is the entry point to the TransAcoustic lineup, offering onboard reverb and chorus with simple, intuitive controls. No Bluetooth, no looper — just two great-sounding effects and a well-built dreadnought that holds its own as a pure acoustic when the effects are off. If you've been looking for a guitar that makes practicing at home more inspiring without adding gear to your signal chain, this one is worth your attention.
The Sand Burst finish gives the guitar a warm, golden look that suits the classic dreadnought shape nicely — traditional aesthetics with some modern character tucked inside.
The TransAcoustic Effect — How It Actually Works
Yamaha's TransAcoustic technology isn't about plugging into an amp with built-in effects. The system uses an internal actuator mounted to the guitar body itself. When you engage reverb or chorus, the actuator physically vibrates the guitar's body in response to string vibrations — the effects resonate acoustically out of the soundhole, blending naturally with your unamplified sound.
The TAG1E features a single actuator and two effects: reverb and chorus. Controls are compact and space-efficient, keeping the amount of wood removed from the body to a minimum to preserve acoustic tone. The guitar also includes a pre-amp and under-saddle piezo pickup, so you can plug into a PA or amp when the situation calls for it. Battery operation (2x AA) keeps the system running without any charging cables to worry about.
Tonewoods Built for a Warm, Bold Voice
At the core of the TAG1E is a solid Sitka spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides. Sitka spruce is a workhorse top wood — responsive across a wide dynamic range, clear in the highs, with strong projection. Mahogany back and sides bring warmth and a focused midrange character, making for a tone that's punchy without being bright or thin.
The neck is also mahogany, with a satin finish for smooth, natural feel during long playing sessions. The walnut fingerboard is a departure from the more common rosewood or ebony, offering a smooth playing surface with a slightly warm, rounded tonal character. Scale length is 25-9/16" (650mm) with a 1-3/4" (44mm) nut width — comfortable and standard feeling for most players transitioning from any full-size acoustic.
Ready for the Stage Too
The TAG1E isn't just a living room guitar. The integrated under-saddle piezo pickup and output jack let you plug into a PA, acoustic amp, or audio interface whenever you need to be heard by more than a room of two. The TransAcoustic effects can be used completely unplugged, or they can be blended with your plugged-in signal — giving you flexibility for rehearsals, small performances, or recording sessions.
Open-gear chrome tuning machines keep things stable and looking clean. The black body binding and blue ripple sound hole inlay add thoughtful visual detail to what is otherwise a classically shaped dreadnought. Die-cast chrome tuners round out the hardware package reliably.
