Classic Telecaster, Unexpected Range

From the outside, the Player II Modified Telecaster SH looks like the Tele that's been getting the job done since 1951. Slab body, bolt-on neck, chrome hardware, three-way selector. But plug it in and you'll find something different—a humbucker at the neck that opens up warm, punchy midrange tones you don't usually expect from a Telecaster. It's a setup players have been modding into their Teles since the late '60s, now built right into the guitar at Fender's Ensenada, Mexico factory. You get classic single-coil snap from the bridge pickup and humbucker muscle at the neck, plus a push-pull coil-split that turns the humbucker into a true single-coil when you need traditional Tele clarity.

This guitar suits players who want Telecaster feel and bridge tone but need more versatility than a traditional two-single-coil setup offers. Whether you're covering country, rock, blues, or anything in between, the SH configuration gives you the tonal flexibility to move between styles without swapping guitars. The Modern C neck profile with a smooth satin finish and rolled fingerboard edges makes it comfortable from the first chord, and the locking tuners mean you'll spend more time playing and less time retuning.

Noiseless Bridge, Splitcoil Neck

The bridge pickup is a Player II Noiseless Tele single-coil—it delivers the bright, cutting Telecaster twang you expect without the 60-cycle hum that can plague traditional single-coils. You'll hear crisp highs and defined lows whether you're playing clean country licks or overdriven rock riffs. The neck humbucker is Fender's Player II Modified design, voiced to give you articulate warmth with plenty of output. It's not muddy or overly thick—just a full-bodied tone that contrasts beautifully with the bridge position.

Here's where it gets useful: pull up on the tone knob and the humbucker splits to a single coil. Now you've got classic Telecaster neck pickup clarity—the glassy, warm tone that's perfect for rhythm playing and jazzy chords. Between the three-way switch and the coil-split, you've effectively got four distinct voices: neck humbucker, neck single-coil, both pickups together, and bridge single-coil. The treble-bleed circuit on the volume control keeps your tone bright and clear even when you roll back the volume, so you can ride your guitar's volume knob without losing sparkle.

Designed to Play Fast and Stay in Tune

The maple neck is carved to a Modern C profile—slightly fuller than a vintage Tele neck but still slim enough for fast playing. The back is finished in smooth satin urethane that won't stick to your hand when you're moving up and down the neck. The 9.5-inch radius rosewood fingerboard sits right in the middle between vintage roundness and modern flatness, giving you comfortable chord work and enough room for wide bends without fretting out. The rolled fingerboard edges make it feel like a guitar that's been played in, even if it's brand new.

Fender equipped this guitar with short-post locking tuners and a Graph Tech TUSQ nut—both upgrades designed to improve tuning stability. The locking tuners make string changes faster and create a steeper break angle over the nut for better sustain. The TUSQ nut is self-lubricating, so strings glide smoothly through the slots when you bend or use vibrato. The 6-saddle string-through-body bridge features satin chrome-plated brass saddles that enhance sustain and resonance while giving you precise intonation adjustment for each string.
