A Compact Grand Concert That Doesn't Ask Much — and Gives Plenty Back
Not every guitar needs to be a statement piece. Sometimes you just want something that sits comfortably in your lap, plays easily, and actually sounds like a guitar. That's the Ibanez PC50 in a nutshell — a grand concert acoustic built around real-world playability, with a traditional spruce-and-meranti tonewood combination and an open-pore finish that keeps things comfortable whether you're running through chord progressions at the kitchen table or bringing it along on a trip.
The grand concert body shape is a bit more compact than a standard dreadnought, which makes it genuinely easier to hold and reach around — especially for players with smaller frames or anyone who just prefers a guitar that doesn't feel like it's wearing you. The 25" scale length keeps string tension on the more relaxed side, so fretting chords is approachable without going so short that the guitar loses resonance.
From the open-pore polyurethane finish to the Ibanez Advantage™ bridge pins, the PC50 is full of thoughtful details for a guitar at this price point. It's a solid everyday companion for someone getting started or a no-stress acoustic to keep around the house.
Spruce Top, Meranti Body — A Classic Pairing
The PC50's spruce top is the traditional choice for acoustic guitar soundboards, and there's a reason it's held that status for over a century. Spruce offers clear, articulate response across the frequency range — bright on top, with enough body to carry low-end warmth. The meranti back and sides round out the tone with a warm, balanced character that complements the spruce well.
The open-pore polyurethane finish on both the body and neck is worth calling out specifically. Unlike a thick gloss coat, the open-pore treatment keeps the wood feeling more natural under your hands — particularly noticeable on the back of the neck, where a glossy finish can create drag when you're moving around the fretboard. It also lets the wood breathe a bit more, which has a subtle effect on resonance.
A Neck That Stays Out of Your Way
The PC50 uses Ibanez's "PC" neck profile in meranti — a slim, comfortable shape that measures 21mm thick at the 1st fret and 22mm at the 7th. That's on the slimmer side for an acoustic, which translates to less hand fatigue over longer playing sessions. The nut width comes in at 42mm (about 1.65"), a standard dimension that works well for fingerpicking and strumming alike.
The 21-fret Nandu wood fretboard has a 250mm (approximately 10") radius with white dot inlays — familiar, easy to navigate, and well-suited to both single-note runs and full chord shapes. The neck joins the body at the 14th fret via a dovetail joint, standard for acoustic construction and good for long-term structural stability.
Hardware Built for Daily Use
Chrome die-cast tuners keep things stable and are easy to operate — no binding, no slipping. The Ibanez Advantage™ bridge pins are a small but genuinely useful detail: their bulb-shaped ends make them easy to grip when pulling them out for string changes, and they seat securely so strings stay put during play. The Nandu wood bridge transfers string vibration efficiently to the soundboard, and the guitar ships with Ibanez IACS6C strings in a light .012–.053 gauge — a player-friendly setup right out of the box.
