The D'Addario NYXL1046 is a set of nickel wound electric guitar strings in the ever-popular Regular Light gauge (10-46). These are uncoated strings built around D'Addario's proprietary NY Steel hex core — high carbon steel wire drawn in-house at their Farmingdale, New York facility — which gives them notably higher break strength and improved tuning stability compared to standard nickel wound strings.
The wound strings (.026, .036, .046) use reformulated nickel-plated steel windings over that hex core, which D'Addario says boosts output and enhances midrange frequency response in the 1–3.5 kHz range. Plain steels (.010, .013, .017) use a Fusion Twist process at the ball end to reduce slack-induced detuning. The result is a set that holds pitch well under aggressive playing — bending, dive bombs, heavy strumming — while delivering a bright, articulate tone. Packaging is corrosion-resistant to keep spare sets fresh on the shelf.
