An Acoustic Guitar That Brings Its Own Room

You know that feeling when you're playing somewhere with great acoustics — a tiled hallway, a live room, a big wooden cabin — and everything just sounds better? The Yamaha TAS1E TransAcoustic is built around that idea. It puts reverb and chorus directly inside the guitar body itself, no amp, no pedals, no cables required. Just plug in your playing and let the guitar do the rest.

This is a concert-body acoustic-electric with a solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and Yamaha's SYSTEM70 TransAcoustic technology. Whether you're writing at home or stepping onto a small stage, the TAS1E keeps your setup simple without asking you to compromise on tone.

Players who want to spend more time playing and less time fussing with gear will find this one clicks immediately. It's equally useful for strummers and fingerpickers, and the built-in effects work whether you're plugged in or not.

The TransAcoustic SYSTEM70 — How It Actually Works

Inside the TAS1E, Yamaha's SYSTEM70 technology uses an actuator mounted to the inner surface of the guitar body. That actuator picks up string vibrations, processes them with onboard effects, and physically vibrates the body itself — so the reverb and chorus radiate right out of the soundhole just like the acoustic tone does. The result sounds far more integrated than effects added at the amp or mixer stage.

The TAS1E's two onboard effects — reverb and chorus — are controlled via simple, low-profile buttons on the upper bout. Adjusting them doesn't interrupt your playing, and because they require minimal body routing, the acoustic sound quality stays intact. When you do want to connect to a PA or amp, a line-out jack carries your acoustic tone and ambient effects together.

Tonewoods and Construction

The solid Sitka spruce top delivers the clarity and projection you'd expect from this species — bright pick attack, articulate note separation, and a wide dynamic range that opens up as you play harder. Mahogany back and sides round things out with warmth and focused midrange that sits well under vocals and in a mix.

The mahogany neck pairs with a walnut fingerboard — a departure from the usual rosewood or ebony, and one that many players find smooth and easy on the fingertips. The concert-style body keeps the overall feel compact and comfortable, which tends to suit both seated practice and standing performance.

Playability Details

The TAS1E has a 650mm (25-9/16") scale length — slightly longer than a typical short-scale concert guitar — with a 44mm (1-3/4") nut width. That's a comfortable, mid-width neck that works well for fingerstyle players and standard chord playing alike. The ebony bridge and open-gear chrome tuners round out a clean, tidy hardware spec. The body finish is gloss; the neck wears a matte finish for unrestricted movement up and down the fretboard.
