An Acoustic Guitar That Brings Its Own Room

Picture this: you're sitting in your living room, playing a simple chord progression, and the walls start to breathe with reverb — without a single cable plugged in, without a pedal on the floor, without an amp humming in the corner. That's the TAS3 C in a nutshell. Yamaha figured out how to put a room inside a guitar, and the result is one of the more genuinely surprising instruments to come along in a while.

The TAS3 C is the concert-body version of Yamaha's second-generation TransAcoustic line. It's an all-solid acoustic-electric with built-in reverb, chorus, delay, a looper, and Bluetooth audio — all radiating acoustically from the guitar's own body. No amp required. No pedalboard required. Just the guitar and whatever you want to play.

If you write songs alone, rehearse without a band, teach, or just like to sit somewhere quiet with a guitar that sounds like it's in a much more interesting space than your kitchen table, the TAS3 C is worth a serious look.

All-Solid Build With A.R.E.-Treated Sitka Spruce

The TAS3 C isn't just a technology demo — it's a genuinely well-built acoustic guitar. The top is solid Sitka spruce treated with Yamaha's A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement) process, which alters the wood's cellular structure to behave more like aged tonewoods. The back and sides are solid mahogany, which contributes a warm, focused midrange character that pairs naturally with the spruce top's clarity and punch.

The concert-style body with Venetian cutaway keeps things comfortable — it's a smaller, more comfortable body than a dreadnought, which makes it particularly appealing to fingerpickers and players who prefer a lighter, more balanced instrument on the lap. The cutaway opens up the upper frets without compromising the acoustic volume you'd expect from a solid-wood instrument at this level.

The mahogany neck is complemented by an ebony fingerboard and bridge. Ebony is one of the denser, smoother fretboard materials out there, and it gives the neck a slick, quick feel. Scale length is 25.56" with a 1.75" nut width — dimensions that will feel immediately familiar if you're coming from most standard acoustic guitars.

TransAcoustic System76: Effects Without the Gear

Here's what makes this guitar genuinely different: two actuators mounted inside the guitar respond to string vibrations and transmit those vibrations directly into the guitar body and the air around it. The result is reverb, chorus, and delay that radiate organically from the instrument itself — not from a speaker cabinet, not from a headphone amp, but from the wood of the guitar. It's a distinctly physical experience that you don't fully appreciate until you hear it.

Four streamlined buttons on the body control the effects, looper, and Bluetooth pairing. A small dial in the sound hole handles line-out volume when you're plugging into a PA or interface. Yamaha kept the control footprint intentionally minimal to reduce the amount of body wood removed, which helps preserve the guitar's acoustic tone. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery (magnetic charging connection) gives you up to 5.5 hours of play time on a charge.

The built-in looper lets you record and play back phrases in real time, and a tap sensor lets you sync delay time to your tempo. The iOS/Android-compatible TAG Remote app gives you deeper control over effect parameters and loop phrase management when you want more granular adjustments than the onboard buttons provide.

Bluetooth Audio: Play Along With Anything

The TAS3 C can also receive Bluetooth audio from your phone, tablet, or computer and play that audio through the guitar's body — same actuator system, same acoustic transmission. Stream a backing track, a reference recording, or a song you're learning, and it comes out of the instrument you're already holding. It's a genuinely useful practice feature that removes one more piece of gear from the equation.

When you do need to plug in — for a live performance or a recording session — the TransAcoustic System76 electronics include a line out that connects cleanly to a PA or interface. The TAS3 C handles both contexts without requiring you to reconfigure anything.
