Solid Tonewoods and Traditional Bracing
The L-00 Special is built with solid Sitka spruce on top and solid mahogany for the back and sides. That's not marketing language — these are genuine solid woods, not laminates. The Sitka spruce offers clarity and dynamic range, while the mahogany adds warmth and midrange presence. Gibson reinforces the top with their traditional scalloped X-bracing, a design that's been refined over decades to balance strength with resonance.
The body features single-ply cream binding on both the top and back, and the whole guitar is finished in a thin satin nitrocellulose lacquer.
