The Workhorse, Now in Your Hands

Some guitars earn their nickname. The J-45 got called "The Workhorse" because it just works — night after night, genre after genre, decade after decade. The J-45 is the best-selling acoustic in the history of Gibson, and since its introduction in 1942, it has become the cornerstone of the round-shoulder dreadnought line. Now Epiphone brings that same shape, that same all-solid tonewood recipe, and that same spirit to a price point that makes sense for real players.

The Epiphone J-45 Standard is made using all solid woods, including solid mahogany for the back and sides, which is paired with a solid spruce top, delivering the classic tonal recipe that made the J-45 a player favorite. That matters more than it might sound — solid wood resonates, breathes, and opens up over time in ways laminate simply can't match.

Whether you're writing at home, playing an open mic, or recording a demo, this guitar is built to show up and deliver. It even comes stage-ready with onboard Fishman electronics, so you don't need to add anything before your first gig.

Built From the Ground Up in Solid Wood

Solid mahogany back and sides paired with a solid spruce top gives this guitar the warmth, resonance, and responsiveness that all-solid construction is known for. The round-shoulder dreadnought body shape produces a full, balanced sound — present in the mids, grounded in the bass — that sits well in a mix whether you're strumming chords or picking through an arrangement.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a comfortable Rounded C profile and is equipped with a rosewood fretboard with 20 standard frets and adorned with understated mother-of-pearl dot inlays. The 24.75" scale length and 1.69" nut width make for a familiar, comfortable feel — especially for players coming from electric guitars or shorter-scale acoustics.

The headstock features the popular 60s Kalamazoo shape and is fitted with a bone nut and smooth-functioning Grover Rotomatic tuners. The belly-up bridge is rosewood and is equipped with a bone saddle. These are the kinds of quality details that you notice over time: tuners that actually hold, a nut that doesn't bind, a saddle that transfers tone cleanly to the top.

Stage-Ready Electronics That Stay Out of the Way

The Epiphone J-45 Standard is equipped with a Fishman Presys VT under-saddle pickup and preamp with volume and tone controls discretely hidden in the soundhole, where they are easy for the player to access while remaining all but invisible to the audience. That's a thoughtful placement — you can make a quick adjustment mid-song without fishing around the side of the guitar.

The Fishman Presys VT system is a proven, reliable workhorse in its own right. The under-saddle pickup captures your playing dynamics cleanly, and the soundhole-mounted controls give you quick access to volume and tone without cluttering the guitar's silhouette. Plug in, dial in, and play.

The Finishing Details

The newly redesigned pickguard is the epoxy style and features the traditional teardrop shape and is tortoise shell-colored — a period-correct nod to vintage J-45 aesthetics. The Vintage Sunburst finish brings warmth and depth to the natural mahogany and spruce tones of the body, and the gloss coat gives it a polished, stage-ready appearance.

The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson J-45 Standard has been refined to carry this legacy to new heights. It's a straightforward, honest guitar — no gimmicks, no unnecessary extras. Just a well-built, great-sounding acoustic that's ready to get to work.
