The Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky RPS (P02241) is a set of nickel-wound electric guitar strings in a 9-46 gauge configuration — lighter on the top strings for easy bending, heavier on the bottom three for a fuller low-end feel. The "Hybrid" gauge borrows the three treble strings from the Super Slinky set and the three bass strings from the Regular Slinky set, giving you a versatile setup without having to mix and match packs.
What sets the RPS version apart is Ernie Ball's patented reinforcement at the ball end. RPS stands for Reinforced Plain Strings — a winding of brass wire is tightly wrapped around the lock twist of the ball end on the plain strings (E, B, and G). This is exactly where plain strings are most prone to slipping and breaking, so the extra reinforcement helps them hold tune better and last longer than standard plain strings. The wound strings (D, A, and low E) are made from nickel-plated steel wire wrapped around a tin-plated hex-shaped steel core.
