A Living Legend, Built to Be Played
Few acoustic guitars carry as much visual and musical identity as the Hummingbird. That pickguard — the one with the hummingbird, butterflies, and flowers etched in tortoise-style graphics — has been turning heads on stages and in studios since Gibson first introduced the design in 1960. Epiphone's Hummingbird Standard brings that same square-shoulder silhouette and all-solid tonewood construction into a package that's genuinely built for everyday playing.
This is a guitar that rewards you right away and keeps rewarding you over time. All-solid wood construction means the top, back, and sides will open up and improve with age — something laminate instruments simply can't do. The Cherry Sunburst finish gives it that unmistakable vintage warmth, and the gold hardware ties the whole look together in a way that feels classic without being flashy.
Whether you're a songwriter looking for a reliable stage companion or someone who's always wanted a Hummingbird but couldn't justify the Gibson price tag, this is a guitar worth picking up.
All-Solid Tonewoods That Keep Getting Better
The Hummingbird Standard is built with a solid spruce top paired with solid mahogany back and sides — the classic Hummingbird tonewood combination. Solid woods resonate differently than laminate; they produce a more complex, responsive sound, and they tend to bloom as the guitar gets played in over the years. The spruce top delivers clarity and articulation, while the mahogany back and sides add a focused midrange warmth and punch.
The one-piece solid mahogany neck is set into the body with a tapered dovetail joint, which contributes to strong sustain and a firm connection between neck and body. It carries a Rounded C profile — comfortable for chord players and melodic lead work alike — and the 12-inch fretboard radius keeps barre chords from feeling stiff.
The rosewood fretboard features 20 frets with mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays, one of the defining visual details of any Hummingbird. Scale length is 24.75 inches, and the bone nut measures 1.69 inches wide — a touch wider than some short-scale acoustics, which gives individual strings a bit more room to breathe.
Ready for the Stage Without Any Add-Ons
The Hummingbird Standard ships with Fishman electronics built right in: an S-Core under-saddle pickup paired with the Fishman Presys VT preamp. Volume and tone controls are mounted in the soundhole, making adjustments easy to reach mid-performance without breaking your playing position. The output is a standard 1/4-inch endpin jack.
The Presys VT is a clean, transparent preamp — it's designed to let the natural voice of the guitar come through rather than coloring the signal. That matters when you're plugging into a PA or acoustic amp on a gig where the mic isn't always an option. Players who've used Fishman electronics on stage generally find them reliable and easy to dial in quickly.
Hardware and Finish Details
The 60s Kalamazoo headstock carries the Epiphone logo and Gibson crown inlay in mother-of-pearl, and it's fitted with Epiphone Deluxe tuners with gold-finished Keystone buttons. The reverse belly rosewood bridge holds a bone saddle and ivory plastic bridge pins. The truss rod is dual-action, which gives you room to adjust the neck relief in either direction as the guitar settles across seasons.
The Cherry Sunburst finish is a gloss aged finish — rich and warm in person, with the kind of depth that photographs beautifully under stage lighting. Multi-ply binding on the body and the epoxy-style Hummingbird tortoise pickguard round out a guitar that looks every bit as good as it sounds.
