A Guitar That Looks Like No Other
No two pieces of spalted maple are alike — that's the whole point. The natural fungal patterning that creates those dark, sweeping lines through the grain means that every Luna Gypsy Exotic Spalt comes out looking genuinely one of a kind. It's the kind of visual character that usually costs a lot more than this.
The Gypsy Spalt is built around a grand auditorium body — a versatile shape that balances comfortable playability with a well-rounded, full sound. Luna pairs a laminated spruce top with a striking spalted maple veneer, giving you the sonic foundation of spruce with striking natural artwork on top. The mahogany back, sides, and neck add warmth to the overall character of the guitar.
Whether you're just starting out or you want a visually distinctive second guitar without a big investment, the Gypsy Spalt delivers something genuinely different for the money.
Tonewoods and Construction
The top is laminated spruce with a spalted maple veneer overlay — the spruce provides the core acoustic response, while the spalt graphic gives each instrument its own visual identity. Because spalted maple forms through a natural process, no two guitars will ever look exactly the same.
The back and sides are mahogany, a tonewood with a long track record for delivering warmth and clarity across the midrange. The neck is also mahogany, capped with a Pau Ferro fretboard. Luna's specially designed neck profile is built for comfort, keeping your fretting hand relaxed whether you're working through basic chords or stretching for harder shapes.
Details That Punch Above the Price
Luna's signature design touches show up throughout: the crescent moon logo is inlaid in mother-of-pearl on the headstock, and the fretboard is decorated with Luna's exclusive moon phase markers in pearloid — a detail that makes the fingerboard visually cohesive and genuinely attractive, not just functional.
Hardware includes a graphite nut and sealed chrome die-cast tuners. The graphite nut helps the strings move smoothly and resist binding, which contributes to better tuning stability — a practical benefit that's easy to overlook at this price point. The balsamo bridge is a touch of tonal craftsmanship that rounds out a surprisingly well-considered package.
