A Full Pedalboard in Your Gig Bag
You know that moment at a gig when you wish you had just one more pedal — a touch of reverb here, a little wah there — but your board is already maxed out and your back is already screaming? The Boss GT-1 is the answer to that problem. It's a floor-based multi-effects processor that slips right into the accessory pocket of your guitar bag and runs on four AA batteries for up to seven hours. No power strip required. No extra trips to the car.
Under the hood, the GT-1 runs Boss's flagship GT-series engine — the same lineage that powers their larger, more expensive floor processors. That means you're getting 108 effects ranging from classic overdrive and compression to modulation, delay, reverb, and beyond, plus a deep library of COSM amp models covering everything from vintage legends to Boss originals. The unit also includes specialized effects like Acoustic Simulator and Guitar Simulator for even more tonal variety.
Whether you're a gigging player who needs a compact, dependable rig, a traveling musician looking to keep things light, or someone just getting into the world of multi-effects, the GT-1 is built to fit the way you actually play.
Sound Engine and Effects
The GT-1 is driven by two of Boss's core technologies: MDP (Multi-Dimensional Processing) and COSM (Composite Object Sound Modeling). MDP splits your guitar signal based on frequency and dynamics, letting effects respond intelligently to your playing — an overdrive can behave differently when you're digging in versus playing softly, without you touching a knob. COSM, pioneered by Boss in 1995 and continually refined since, models amplifiers by accounting for their electronic circuitry, transformers, speakers, and physical construction.
All 108 effects run at 24-bit conversion with Boss's proprietary Adaptive Focus method, which improves signal-to-noise ratio at the AD/DA stage. The result is a clean, quiet signal chain even with multiple effects stacked. A 32-second phrase looper is built right in — useful for practice, songwriting, or live performance.
Controls and Navigation
The GT-1's interface centers around Easy Select and Easy Edit functions. Easy Select lets you browse patches by genre, distortion type, or effect type. Easy Edit gives you fast access to drive, modulation, and echo parameters via three dedicated knobs — no menu-diving required for common tweaks. Dedicated panel buttons handle quick on/off for effect groups (FX1/Comp, OD/DS, Preamp, FX2/Mod, Delay, Reverb) and open deeper parameter editing when held. A backlit graphic LCD (132 x 32 dots) keeps everything readable on a dark stage.
Three footswitches handle patch selection, tuner access, and looper control. The CTL1 switch is freely assignable to functions like tap tempo or effects on/off. The built-in expression pedal and its toe switch are assignable to volume, wah, and other real-time parameters. There's also a CTL2/EXP2 jack (1/4-inch TRS) that accepts up to two external footswitches or a second expression pedal if you want more hands-free control.
Connectivity and Power
Outputs include stereo L/MONO and R jacks (1/4-inch) plus a headphone output — handy for silent practice or late-night playing. An AUX IN (stereo mini jack) lets you plug in a phone or media player for playing along. USB connects the GT-1 directly to your DAW for recording and re-amping, and also gives you access to the free Boss Tone Studio editor/librarian software and Boss Tone Central, where professional guitarists have uploaded ready-to-use patch collections.
Power runs on four AA batteries (up to seven hours of play time) or an optional 9V DC adapter (Boss PSA series, sold separately). The unit's smooth, edge-free design is intentionally shaped to avoid scratching guitar finishes when packed together in a bag.
