A Grand Auditorium That Earns Its Stage Time

Some guitars are built to sit on a wall and look good. The Alvarez AG70CE Black is built to actually get played — at open mics, in living rooms, on stages, and everywhere in between. The sleek black gloss finish turns heads, but it's the solid Sitka spruce top and East Indian rosewood back and sides that keep players coming back. This is a guitar that rewards you every time you pick it up.

The cutaway body opens up easy access to the upper frets without sacrificing the full voice of the Grand Auditorium shape. Whether you're fingerpicking through chord melody arrangements or strumming your way through a set, the AG70CE Black handles it without fuss. The narrow waist helps define your trebles while the wider lower bout moves plenty of air for a full bass response — exactly what you want from a guitar this size.

It's part of Alvarez's Artist Series, which means it's a serious all-solid instrument at a price that doesn't require a second mortgage. Players who want a versatile, stage-ready acoustic-electric with premium appointments and real tonewoods will feel right at home here.

Built from the Ground Up with Real Wood

The top is a solid A+ Sitka spruce — not a laminate, not a veneer. Alvarez grades their tonewoods independently and puts every piece of spruce through an ATR (Advanced Tonal Response) curing process that removes moisture and volatiles through thermo-kiln drying. The result is a more stable, more resonant top that sounds better right out of the box and continues to open up as it's played.

The back and sides are also solid East Indian rosewood — another all-solid choice that brings clarity, articulation, and a well-balanced tonal character that complements the spruce top without muddying it. The mahogany neck is topped with a 21-fret East Indian rosewood fingerboard, with the neck joining the body at the 14th fret for a comfortable reach into the upper register. A bone nut and saddle round out the material choices, keeping string transfer clean and natural.

FS6 Bracing and the LR Baggs StagePro Bronze

Alvarez's FS6 forward-shifted bracing pattern moves the axis of the X-brace closer to the soundhole, creating a larger vibrating soundboard area. That translates to more energy, better projection, and a more open, immediate response when you dig in. Both the X-braces and asymmetric tone bars are scalloped — a detail developed in Alvarez's Yairi workshops that helps balance treble and bass frequencies across the neck.

Plugged in, the AG70CE Black is fitted with the LR Baggs StagePro Bronze system — a side-mounted EQ that pairs the renowned LR Baggs Element under-saddle pickup with a low-profile control panel. You get a large backlit tuner, volume, bass, and treble controls, plus a phase switch for managing feedback in live situations. The battery box lives in the end-pin jack compartment, so swapping batteries mid-gig takes about five seconds.
