At the core of the kit is the DTX-PRO drum module, which gives you 40 preset studio-sampled drum kits to choose from, plus room to create up to 200 custom kits using 400 onboard assignable sounds. The Kit Modifier section — three physical knobs for AMBIENCE, COMP, and EFFECT — lets you shape the feel of a kit in real time without digging through menus. Twist the ambience up for a big room sound, dial in compression for a punchy studio vibe, or get creative with the effect knob. It's an intuitive way to make the sounds yours.
Whether you're woodshedding at home, tracking ideas into a DAW, or just looking for a low-volume practice setup, the DTX6K-X covers a lot of ground without asking much in return. The XP80 Snare: Where TCS Makes a Difference
The snare pad is often where electronic kits cut corners. Yamaha didn't do that here. The XP80 snare features a Textured Cellular Silicone (TCS) head — a proprietary Yamaha surface designed to feel like a real coated drumhead, with natural rebound and a consistent feel that doesn't punish your wrists on long sessions.
It's also a true 3-zone pad, which means you get distinct triggering for head strikes, rimshots, and cross-sticks. That level of articulation matters when you're trying to play musically rather than just trigger beats. Open and closed rim playability makes it versatile for a wide range of styles and techniques.
Cymbal Pads With Real Expression
The 13" PCY135 ride cymbal is the most expressive cymbal in the DTX6K-X's lineup, offering three distinct zones — bell, bow, and edge — along with positional sensing. That means the sound changes depending on where you strike the pad, faithfully recreating the tonal variation of a real ride cymbal. You can also choke and mute it, the same way you would an acoustic cymbal.
The 10" PCY95 crash cymbal is single-zone but still chokeable, and the hi-hat setup pairs a 10" PCY95 pad with the HH65 hi-hat controller for open and closed hi-hat articulation. It's a practical configuration that covers the essential cymbal voices while keeping the footprint tight. Note: a hi-hat stand is not included — the hi-hat uses a separate controller pedal.
Built-In Tools for Getting Better
The DTX-PRO module includes a full suite of practice features: a sophisticated programmable metronome, 10 onboard training functions, 37 play-along songs, and a built-in record function to capture ideas and track your progress. These aren't tacked-on extras — they're genuinely useful for players who want to use practice time well.
The kit is also compatible with Yamaha's free DTX-TOUCH app, which makes it easy to adjust settings, build custom kits, and manage sounds from your smart device. For connectivity, the DTX-PRO offers USB Audio/MIDI (so you can send audio directly to your DAW or smart device) and a standard DIN MIDI out. Bass drum pedal is sold separately.
