A No-Fuss Grand Concert That Just Wants to Be Played
Sometimes you just want a guitar that gets out of its own way — comfortable to hold, easy to play, and sounds decent without requiring a second mortgage. That's exactly what Ibanez built the PC15NT to be. Part of the long-running Performance Series, it's a full-size grand concert acoustic that pairs a spruce top with nyatoh back and sides, wrapped in a natural high gloss finish that looks clean and classic.
The grand concert body shape is a bit of an unsung hero in the acoustic world. It's smaller and more focused than a dreadnought, which means less boom and more clarity — a shape that tends to work especially well for fingerpicking, lighter strumming, and players who find larger bodies unwieldy. The 25" scale keeps tension comfortable across the whole neck, and the 42mm nut width gives you enough room to work without spreading your fingers into uncomfortable territory.
This is a solid choice for anyone getting started on acoustic guitar, or anyone who just wants a reliable second guitar to leave around the house, take to a campfire, or keep in an office without worrying too much about it.
Spruce and Nyatoh — A Working Combination
The spruce top is the most common choice for acoustic guitar tops, and for good reason — it responds well to both strumming and picking, and tends to open up and project more clearly as it's played in over time. On the PC15NT, the spruce top pairs with nyatoh back and sides. Nyatoh is a Southeast Asian tonewood that sits in similar tonal territory to mahogany — warm mids, decent sustain, and a little brightness in the upper register.
The nyatoh neck connects to a Nandu Wood fretboard and bridge. Nandu (also known as Laurel) is a reasonably smooth fretboard material that players transitioning from beginner instruments often find quite comfortable under the fingers. White dot position markers keep navigation simple and familiar, and the black & white multi-rosette around the soundhole adds a bit of visual polish without going overboard.
Hardware That Works Without Getting in the Way
Ibanez fitted the PC15NT with chrome die-cast tuners, which are stable and easy to turn — a meaningful detail on an entry-level instrument where bad tuners can make a guitar genuinely frustrating to play. The Ibanez Advantage bridge pins are a small but clever design touch: the bulb-shaped end makes them easier to grip and pull, and keeps the pin and string seated securely. It's the kind of little thing you only appreciate when you've wrestled with conventional bridge pins.
A black pickguard protects the top below the soundhole, and the natural high gloss finish gives the guitar a polished, clean appearance that punches a bit above its price range visually.
