A Dreadnought Built for Lefties — No Compromises
Finding a quality left-handed acoustic at a reasonable price used to mean settling. The Alvarez AD60L changes that. It's the same guitar as the award-winning AD60 — solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides, real bone nut and saddle — just flipped for the way you actually play. Left-handed players deserve a well-built instrument, and this one delivers exactly that.
The AD60 started as a benchmark project back in 2010, when Alvarez's design team set out to build the best-performing entry-level guitar they could. What came out of that work became one of the most recognized acoustic lines in the market. The AD60L carries all of that forward, just oriented for left-handed players.
Whether you're a fingerpicker, a flatpicker, or someone who loves to strum open chords on a Sunday afternoon, the dreadnought body gives you the volume and projection to fill a room — or just fill the silence in your living room.
Solid Top, Real Materials
The AD60L's top is solid A+ grade Sitka spruce — not laminate, not a veneer. Sitka is the workhorse tonewood for a reason: it's stiff, light, and responds dynamically across a wide range of playing styles. Alvarez applies a thin gloss finish to the top to keep the wood as acoustically free as possible, while the back and sides get a semi-gloss sheen for a clean, balanced look.
The mahogany back and sides add warmth and midrange presence that rounds out the spruce top's natural brightness. It's a classic pairing for a reason — the two tonewoods complement each other well, and on a dreadnought body, the result is a full-sounding guitar with clear separation between the low, mid, and high registers.
The bone nut and saddle are worth calling out specifically. Many guitars at this price point use synthetic materials; real bone transfers string vibration more effectively and tends to hold up better over time. It's a detail that reflects how seriously Alvarez takes construction on the Artist Series.
Bracing, Bridge, and Hardware
Alvarez uses their FS6 forward-shifted, scalloped bracing system on the AD60L. Forward-shifting the X-brace pattern moves the bracing closer to the soundhole, freeing up more of the lower bout to vibrate. The result is a more open, responsive sound — one that loosens up as you play it in. The scalloping removes material from the braces where it's not structurally needed, reducing mass and further enhancing resonance.
The bi-level rosewood bridge is another thoughtful design choice. By stepping the bridge height between the treble and bass sides, Alvarez increases string break angle over the saddle, which improves sustain and keeps the sound tight and focused. The premium die-cast tuners hold pitch reliably, and the ivory ABS binding gives the guitar a tidy, finished look without getting flashy about it.
The neck joins the body at the 14th fret with a dovetail joint — a traditional construction method that contributes to resonance and long-term stability. With a 25.5-inch scale length and a 1 3/4-inch nut width, the AD60L plays comfortably for a wide range of hand sizes and playing styles.
