A Dreadnought That Knows Its Way Around the Upper Frets
Most dreadnoughts make you choose between big, full-bodied acoustic sound and easy access to the high end of the neck. The Ibanez PF54CE doesn't ask you to compromise. The Venetian cutaway opens up the upper register without shrinking the body, so you still get that characteristic dreadnought depth and projection when you're strumming open chords around the campfire — and the high frets are right there whenever you need them.
The Weathered Black open-pore finish on the top gives this guitar a distinctly modern, understated look. The open-pore treatment means the wood isn't buried under thick lacquer, which lets the body resonate more freely. It's a detail you'll notice both in how the guitar looks and how it feels under your hands.
Whether you're playing unplugged at home or plugging into a PA at an open mic, the PF54CE is built to do both without fuss. It's a solid choice for players who want a gigging-ready acoustic-electric without spending a fortune.
Meranti Through and Through
The PF54CE's top, back, sides, and neck are all built from meranti — a tropical hardwood from Southeast Asia that's often compared to mahogany in its tonal character. It produces a warm, balanced sound with a decent low-end presence, making it well-suited to fingerpicking as well as strumming. If you've been gravitating toward mahogany-topped guitars, meranti will feel immediately familiar.
The nandu wood fingerboard and bridge round out the all-natural tonal palette. Nandu is known for contributing a warm, resonant feel underhand, and the nandu bridge efficiently transfers string vibration into the body. Ibanez's Advantage bridge pins are a thoughtful touch — their bulb-shaped ends make string changes noticeably easier than traditional pins.
AEQ-2T Electronics: Plug In and Play
When it's time to amplify, the AEQ-2T preamp system handles the job cleanly. The control panel gives you a volume knob plus independent bass and treble controls — enough flexibility to compensate for different room acoustics or PA setups without overcomplicating your signal chain. The built-in chromatic tuner is a genuine convenience, since it operates without the guitar being plugged in, so you can stay in tune between sets or during a quiet practice session.
The undersaddle pickup captures the acoustic character of the guitar accurately, feeding a clean signal to the 1/4" output jack. A single 9V battery powers the system. With a 25.5" scale length and a 42mm nut width, the neck dimensions land in familiar territory for players coming from standard electric or steel-string acoustic guitars.
