Solid Alder Body with Flamed Maple Top
The TRBX605FM starts with a solid alder body — a tonewood known for balanced output across the frequency spectrum: clear highs, defined mids, and a punchy low end. Alder is a smart foundation for an active bass because it doesn't color the signal excessively, which means your EQ adjustments translate exactly as intended.
That solid alder is capped with a flamed maple top in a Dark Red Burst finish. Beyond the striking looks, the maple adds brightness, bite, and sustain to the alder's naturally balanced character. It's a classic combination in electric basses for a reason — the two woods balance each other well, and the result is a full, lively tone with real harmonic depth.
5-Piece Maple/Mahogany Neck and Rosewood Fretboard
Yamaha's 5-piece maple/mahogany neck construction is one of the standout features on the TRBX605FM. Alternating strips of maple and mahogany glued together give the neck exceptional rigidity against seasonal changes and string tension — important on a 5-string where that low B can put real stress on the instrument. You get the brightness and snap of maple combined with the warmth and sustain of mahogany in a single piece.
The rosewood fretboard feels smooth under your fingers and provides a slightly warmer attack compared to maple boards. The TRBX neck profile is comfortable and approachable, with a slim 1-11/16" (43mm) nut width that keeps the string spacing manageable for a 5-string — especially useful if you're coming from 4-string and want the transition to feel as seamless as possible. Twenty-four frets gives you the full upper-register range when you need it, and the bolt-on neck joint is designed for solid vibration transfer and upper-fret access.
YGD H5 Pickups and Active/Passive Electronics
The TRBX605FM runs a pair of Yamaha's YGD H5 humbucking pickups. These are double-coil designs that deliver a clean, open tone with good dynamic sensitivity — they respond well to your playing touch, whether you're digging in hard or playing lightly. A pickup balancer lets you blend between neck and bridge positions continuously, not just toggle between them.
The real flexibility comes from the 3-band active EQ with active/passive switching. You can boost or cut bass, mid, and treble independently to match any room or style, and if you need to drop into passive mode — whether by preference or necessity — the switch is right there. A battery alert LED signals when power is running low, which is a genuinely useful feature for gigging players. The high-mass die-cast bridge rounds things out by efficiently transferring string vibrations to the body for a full, sustain-rich tone.
