Instead of practicing on a bare mouthpiece alone, the BERP lets you buzz with the instrument in your hands, at your actual playing angle, and with realistic resistance you can dial in yourself. The result is that your mouthpiece work actually translates to the horn.
This is the No. 5, which fits large shank trombone and euphonium mouthpieces — meaning it works with most large-bore tenor trombones, bass trombones, and euphoniums that take a large shank mouthpiece. The BERP clamps onto the open end of the instrument's receiver and does not need to be removed when you're ready to switch back to normal playing. While buzzing, you can move the slide to match the pitches you're working on, reinforcing the ear-training connection between your chops and the instrument.
