A Telecaster-Inspired Baritone Built for Players Who Go Low

If you spend any time in drop tunings — B standard, C# standard, or anything in that territory — you know the frustration of a standard-scale guitar going floppy and indistinct under a heavy pick attack. The Schecter PT-Ex was built to solve exactly that problem. With a 27-inch scale length (a full 1.5 inches longer than a standard Schecter PT), string tension stays firm and focused no matter how far you drop, so your riffs hit with actual punch instead of turning to mush.

Wrapped in a Dorian Grey finish, the PT-Ex has a clean, understated look that lets the playing do the talking. The Telecaster-influenced body shape paired with a humbucker-loaded control layout gives you a guitar that feels familiar but plays in a completely different register. It's the kind of guitar that makes extended range feel approachable rather than intimidating.

Players looking for a well-specified baritone-scale instrument with premium USA-made pickups, a rock-solid neck, and a classic silhouette will find a lot to like here — especially at B-Stock pricing after our tech gives it a full setup.

Extended Scale, Locked-In Tension

The 27-inch scale length is the defining feature of the PT-Ex. Standard guitars clock in around 25.5 inches, which means the PT-Ex gives you noticeably more string mass over the nut-to-saddle distance. That translates to tighter, cleaner low-end response — the kind where drop-D power chords don't blur together, and B-standard single-note runs actually articulate clearly.

The Schecter Diamond PT/H bridge uses a string-through-body design, which further maximizes sustain and resonance. Every note has room to breathe and sustain fully, which matters a lot in the extended range world where sustain can be hard to achieve without going active.

USA-Made Pickups with Real Range

Schecter fitted the PT-Ex with two of their own USA-built humbuckers: a Pasadena Plus in the bridge and a SuperRock Vintage in the neck. The Pasadena Plus is voiced for clarity and punch with pronounced high-frequency definition — useful when you're playing in low registers where notes can muddy up in a dense mix. The SuperRock Vintage at the neck brings a warmer, rounder character that works well for lead lines and clean tones.

A 5-way lever switch gives you the full range of pickup combinations, with Volume and Tone controls rounding out the electronics. Controls are Volume/5-Way Lever/Tone — straightforward and immediately intuitive for anyone who's played a Telecaster-style guitar before.

A Neck Built to Stay Put

The hard rock maple neck on the PT-Ex is reinforced with two carbon fiber rods — not a gimmick, but a genuinely practical feature for a baritone-scale guitar that will likely see a lot of string tension changes. Carbon fiber rods resist the kinds of humidity and temperature swings that can make a standard truss rod work overtime. The neck profile is Schecter's Thin "C" shape, which plays fast and comfortable without feeling like a pencil.

The ebony fingerboard has a 14-inch radius — flatter than the 9.5-inch vintage radius you'd find on a Fender, which means chords stay comfortable across the board and bends don't fret out. 22 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets round things out: wider frets mean less finger-to-fret friction, and stainless steel holds up far longer than nickel-silver without wearing down. The nut is a Graph Tech XL Black Tusq at 42mm width, chosen for smooth string movement and tuning stability — critical on an extended scale instrument.

Schecter locking tuners keep things stable at the headstock end, and the bolt-on neck joint keeps the construction traditional and serviceable.
