D'Angelico's Compact Semi-Hollow, Upgraded for the Stage
If you've ever played a full-size semi-hollow and thought "I love this sound, I just wish I could get it in a more manageable package," the D'Angelico Premier Mini DC XT was built with you in mind. At just 14 inches wide, it carries all the warmth and resonance you'd expect from a centerblock semi-hollow — without the bulk that can make bigger guitars feel unwieldy after a long night on stage.
The Vintage Sunburst finish on this one is something to see in person. It's applied over a laminated flamed maple body, so the figure catches light in a way that makes this guitar genuinely eye-catching. The gloss finish only adds to the effect. You get the look of a vintage archtop with the versatility of a modern semi-hollow.
This Sweetwater-exclusive XT version takes the already-solid Premier Mini DC and adds meaningful upgrades: USA-made Seymour Duncan pickups, locking Grover tuners, and those figured tonewoods. It's a guitar that plays above its price point and suits players from jazz to rock to blues and beyond.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed white spots under clear coat on waist bass and treble side. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Body and Construction: Compact, Comfortable, and Feedback-Free
The Premier Mini DC XT's body is laminated flamed maple — back, sides, and top — measuring 14 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep. A solid centerblock runs through the body, which is what keeps feedback in check even when you're pushing the gain. The double-cutaway shape means your upper frets are completely accessible without having to contort your wrist. Multi-ply cream binding lines the body and neck for a clean, traditional look.
The set maple neck features a slim C-shape profile and gloss finish. At 25 inches of scale length, you'll notice bends feel a little easier than on a typical Gibson-style short-scale guitar, while the 14-inch fingerboard radius keeps chording comfortable across the whole neck. The ovangkol fingerboard is smooth and slightly warmer in response than rosewood — a nice complement to the bright, figured maple body. White pearloid block inlays and 3-ply binding dress the board up appropriately for this instrument's aesthetic.
Twenty-two medium-vintage frets give you the full tonal range you'd expect from a semi-hollow, and the 1 11/16" nut width (PPS material) is a comfortable, familiar spec for most players coming from either Gibson or Fender territory.
Electronics: USA Seymour Duncans — Both of Them
This is one of the key upgrades that separates the XT from the standard Premier Mini DC. Where the standard model ships with Duncan Designed (Korean-made) humbuckers, the XT gets a pair of full USA-made Seymour Duncan pickups: an SH-2n Jazz in the neck and an SH-4 JB in the bridge. These are two of the most proven humbucker designs in the world. The Jazz is articulate, clear, and smooth at the neck position — great for clean jazz voicings and warm leads. The JB brings more output and bite at the bridge, making it equally at home for classic rock and blues-driven playing.
Controls are straightforward: two volume, two tone, and a standard three-way toggle. The four ebony knobs give the control layout a refined, vintage-inspired look. The chrome Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece provide a reliable, familiar platform for intonation and sustain.
Hardware and Tuning Stability
Locking Grover 509 Super Rotomatic tuners — another XT-exclusive upgrade — mean you can string up quickly and stay in tune. The aluminum Skyscraper truss rod cover, D'Angelico's signature Art Deco design detail, is a nice finishing touch that connects this modern guitar to the brand's New York heritage. The PPS nut complements the locking tuners and helps eliminate string binding at the nut. Headstock binding and the Mother of Pearl D'Angelico New York logo and Premier Shield inlay round out a guitar that looks the part at any gig.
