Ovation's Iconic Roundback — Stage-Ready and Turning Heads
There's really nothing else that looks — or plays — quite like an Ovation. The 2771AX Pro Series Standard Balladeer takes the brand's most recognized design, that deep-bowl Lyrachord body with a cutaway, and pairs it with a solid Sitka spruce top and a full suite of electronics to give you an instrument that's equally at home on a coffeehouse stage or plugged straight into a PA at a Saturday night gig. And in Cherry Cherry Burst with its high-gloss finish, it definitely won't disappear into the background.
The Balladeer name goes back to Ovation's earliest days, and this current Pro Series version carries forward the key elements that made those original guitars so popular: the molded Lyrachord composite bowl, center soundhole with inlaid Pearl Oak Leaf rosette, and that satin-finished five-piece mahogany/maple neck. Whether you play fingerstyle or strum hard, it responds cleanly and feels comfortable in your hands.
If you've been curious about Ovation's roundback but haven't pulled the trigger, this B-Stock version is a genuinely smart way to get into one.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed white marks on side and back of guitar. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
A Top That's Built to Resonate
The 2771AX features a solid A-grade Sitka spruce top with scalloped X-bracing underneath. Sitka spruce is a long-standing go-to for acoustic guitar tops — it's stiff and light, which means it moves efficiently and projects clearly across a wide dynamic range. Scalloped X-bracing removes material from the braces in precise spots, letting the top flex more freely and respond to lighter playing without losing structure at higher volumes.
The result is a guitar that feels responsive under both a light pick touch and a harder strum, with clarity in the midrange and articulate highs. The center soundhole with its inlaid Pearl Oak Leaf rosette gives the top its classic Ovation look — elegant without being fussy.
The Lyrachord Bowl: Ovation's Signature Engineering
The Deep Contour Lyrachord GS body is the design element that sets Ovation apart from every other acoustic guitar maker. Lyrachord is a fiberglass composite that Ovation precision-molds into a semi-parabolic bowl shape — it won't warp, check, or split with changes in humidity and temperature the way wood-bodied guitars can. The deep contour shape also acts almost like an acoustic reflector, focusing the sound projection forward through the top.
The GS (weight-reduced) version of the deep contour body keeps things lighter for extended playing sessions. The single cutaway gives you clean access to the upper frets without compromising the bowl's structural integrity. If you play standing up with a strap for long sets, you'll notice how comfortable the rounded back is — it sits naturally against your body and doesn't dig in the way a flat-backed guitar might.
Five-Piece Neck and OP-Pro Electronics
The neck is a five-piece mahogany/maple construction, which alternates the grain direction of the wood pieces to resist warping and twisting over time. The 10" fingerboard radius on the Pau Ferro fretboard is moderately curved — comfortable for chord playing while still feeling flat enough for single-note runs and lead work. Scale length is 643mm (25.3") with a nut width of 42.8mm (1-11/16"), which falls right in the comfortable middle ground for most players.
For electronics, the 2771AX is equipped with Ovation's OCP-1K pickup and OP-Pro preamp with onboard tuner. The OCP-1K is an under-saddle piezo that captures vibrations from both the strings and the top, not just the strings alone. The OP-Pro gives you three-band EQ control and a chromatic tuner, so you can dial in your amplified sound and stay in tune without reaching for a clip-on. Die-cast Ovation machine heads with anthracite finish round out the hardware. The high-gloss Cherry Cherry Burst finish is applied with a warm cherry burst that deepens toward the edges — a classic look that photographs beautifully and holds up well under stage lighting.
