A Workhorse Pacifica in a Fresh Coat of Mist Green
The Yamaha Pacifica story started in 1990, born out of a collaboration with Yamaha's Los Angeles custom shop — built to satisfy the demanding ears of California session players who needed a guitar that could do it all, night after night. The PAC612VIIX is very much that guitar, just with a modern upgrade list that would make those original session cats jealous. Seymour Duncan pickups, Grover locking tuners, a Wilkinson vibrato, a Graph Tech TUSQ nut — these aren't concessions or compromises, they're deliberate component choices that punch well above what you'd expect at this price.
And then there's the Mist Green finish. It's understated without being boring — the kind of color that looks even better in person than in photos, over a contoured solid alder body that's comfortable to play for a long set and easy to reach across for high-fret work. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed very fine finish cracks at the heel and a small paint spot at heel. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Seymour Duncan Pickups — Three of Them
The PAC612VIIX runs an HSS pickup configuration: a Seymour Duncan TB-14 Custom 5 humbucker in the bridge position, flanked by Seymour Duncan SSL-1 single-coils in the middle and neck. The TB-14 delivers full, punchy humbucker output with a slightly scooped midrange character — it handles rhythm work and leads with equal authority. The SSL-1s offer that classic single-coil clarity and chime, and the middle pickup is reverse-wound/reverse-polarity (RWRP), so positions 2 and 4 on the 5-way switch are naturally hum-canceling.
The master tone knob features a push-pull coil-split switch, which opens up the humbucker for single-coil bridge tones. That's a lot of tonal ground covered by one guitar — from warm neck single-coil cleans to split-coil quack to full-on bridge humbucker drive — all through one 5-way selector and one pull of a knob.
A Neck That Gets Out of the Way
The bolt-on maple neck on the PAC612VIIX has a slim C-shape profile and a 13-3/4" fretboard radius — flatter than vintage Fender specs, which makes string bends across the upper registers feel natural rather than fought. The rosewood fingerboard has 22 medium frets and a 25.5" scale length, a combination that keeps string tension predictable and comfortable across all tunings. Nut width sits at 41mm (about 1-5/8"), which is a standard, comfortable width for most players.
Both the neck and body carry a gloss polyurethane finish. The neck's gloss feel is a matter of personal preference — some players love the slick, polished feel; others prefer satin. Worth noting if you've got a strong opinion either way. The Graph Tech TUSQ nut at the headstock end and Grover locking tuners at the other contribute to tuning stability that holds up through aggressive vibrato use.
Hardware Built to Stay in Tune
The Wilkinson VS50 floating vibrato bridge gives you expressive vibrato range without the tuning chaos that can come with lesser tremolo systems. Paired with the Grover locking tuners and the Graph Tech TUSQ nut — which is self-lubricating to reduce string binding — this guitar is set up to stay in tune even when you're working the arm hard. Graph Tech TUSQ string trees are also included, maintaining proper string angle and break point at the headstock for consistent tone and feel across all strings.
The alder body is comfort-contoured — double-cutaway with arm and belly carves that make long playing sessions genuinely more comfortable. Alder has been the go-to body wood for this style of guitar for decades, offering a balanced, clear response that doesn't skew dramatically toward bass or treble. It's a neutral platform that lets the pickups do their job without coloring the signal in unexpected ways.
