The JEM in Blue — Steve Vai's Wildly Distinctive Signature, Ready to Play

There are signature guitars, and then there's the Ibanez JEM. When Steve Vai sat down with Ibanez back in 1987 to sketch out his dream instrument, he didn't hold back — floating tremolo, monkey grip handle, Tree of Life inlay, and a level of ergonomics that was genuinely ahead of its time. Decades later, the JEM77P carries all of that legacy into a finely built instrument wrapped in one of the most recognizable finishes in the guitar world: the Blue Floral Pattern.

This isn't a guitar that tries to blend in. From the matching blue pickups and knobs to the colorful Tree of Life inlay winding its way up a maple fretboard, the JEM77P makes a statement before you even plug it in. Under all that visual flair, though, is a seriously spec'd instrument built for players who want both speed and tone.

Whether you're chasing Vai's signature legato runs, working through complex chord passages, or just want a guitar that rewards aggressive technique, the JEM77P is designed around performance from the ground up.

This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Paint chips from damage on back lower bout near cover plate. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.

A Neck Built for Speed

The JEM77P's Wizard neck is the heart of the playing experience. The five-piece Maple/Walnut construction — reinforced with KTS Titanium rods for added stiffness and stability — gives the neck a fast, slim profile that's become a benchmark for shred-oriented playing. At 18mm thick at the first fret and 20mm at the twelfth, it's genuinely thin without feeling fragile.

The 25.5" scale length sits at a comfortable full-scale tension, and the 400mmR (approximately 15.75") fretboard radius is flatter than most — which keeps chord shapes comfortable while all but eliminating fret-out during heavy bends. The 43mm nut width keeps things from feeling cramped, even as you move into the upper register of the 24 jumbo frets. Premium fret edge treatment rounds out the experience, giving the fingerboard edges that polished, rolled feel that players notice immediately.

DiMarzio HSH Pickups — Configured for Range

Ibanez and DiMarzio worked together to spec out the pickup set on the JEM77P, and the result is a genuinely versatile HSH configuration. The neck and bridge positions feature DiMarzio Gravity Storm humbuckers — passive, Alnico-loaded, and designed to bring out harmonic depth and warmth on the low end with clarity on the high strings. The middle position carries a DiMarzio Evolution single-coil, passive with a Ceramic magnet, which adds a brighter, more articulate voice for clean tones and blended positions.

A five-way selector switch routes between all positions, giving you access to a wide tonal spectrum. The Cosmo Black hardware ties it all together visually — a sleek, non-reflective finish that contrasts nicely against the bold Blue Floral Pattern body.

The Edge-Zero II Tremolo

The Edge-Zero II is Ibanez's take on a low-profile double-locking tremolo. It sits closer to the body than many floating systems, which helps with picking-hand comfort and keeps the geometry feeling natural. The stud-lock function lets you lock down the posts for more reliable tuning stability, which is especially useful if you're not planning to use the arm heavily. String spacing is 10.8mm — tight but precise, and consistent with Ibanez's tremolo-optimized geometry.

For players who do want to use the arm, the Edge-Zero II handles dive bombs and flutter techniques confidently. Combined with the locking nut at the headstock end, the tuning stability is solid once the system is properly set up.
