The RGD body shape takes Ibanez's iconic RG platform and adds sculpted bevels and extra-deep cutaway horns, giving you both a more aggressive silhouette and genuinely comfortable access to the upper frets. The all-matte Black Flat satin polyurethane finish keeps things understated and utilitarian — the way Iron Label guitars are supposed to look.

Built for Down-Tuning: The Scale and Neck
The RGDRB71's bolt-on roasted maple neck carries a Wizard II-7 profile — Ibanez's famously slim, fast shape in a seven-string format. Roasting the maple means the wood has been heat-treated to improve stability, durability, and resistance to moisture and temperature swings. The result is a neck that stays more consistent across different environments than a standard maple neck would.
At 26.5" (673mm), the scale length gives lower strings the added tension they need to intonate accurately and feel taught under heavier gauges. The 24-fret ebony fingerboard runs with a flat 400mm radius — essentially no curve — which keeps bends consistent and clean from the first fret to the 24th. Nut width comes in at 48mm, widening to 68mm at the 24th fret, giving you enough string spacing across all seven strings without feeling cramped.
Luminescent side dot position markers mean you can keep your bearings on a dark stage without breaking focus.
DiMarzio D Activator Humbuckers — Passive, Not Polite
The RGDRB71 is loaded with a pair of DiMarzio D Activator 7 humbuckers — one at the neck, one at the bridge. These are passive, ceramic pickups designed to deliver the kind of focused low-end punch and sharp high-end attack associated with active pickups, but without the battery requirement or the sometimes sterile, compressed quality that comes with going fully active.
Controls are minimal by design: a single volume knob, a 3-way toggle selector, and a coil-tap switch. The coil-tap opens up single-coil voicings from both humbuckers, giving you some tonal range without adding a lot of knobs and switches to navigate.
Hardware Built to Stay in Tune
Each string on the RGDRB71 gets its own individually mounted Mono-rail bridge — Ibanez's design that physically isolates each string's saddle to minimize sympathetic vibration and crosstalk between strings. It's a hardtail design, which also contributes to note sustain and tuning stability during aggressive playing.
Gotoh MG-T locking tuning machines handle the headstock end of tuning stability. A reverse headstock gives the guitar its distinctive profile and can contribute to slightly more consistent string tension at the nut. The entire hardware package comes in a fully blacked-out finish, keeping the aesthetic consistent from bridge to tuners.
