From the moment you strap it on, the sculpted meranti body sits comfortably against you, and that Wizard III maple neck practically pulls your hand into position. It's thin, flat, and built for speed — without making you feel like you need to earn the right to play it.
The RGA42EX's Black Aurora Burst Matte finish gives it an eye-catching look that shifts subtly depending on the light — a dark, aurora-like effect over a satin polyurethane surface that's as smooth to the touch as it is to the eye. The ivory body binding adds a sharp contrast that frames the whole thing nicely.

This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed flaw in binding near input jack. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
A Neck Built for Speed
The Wizard III maple neck is one of Ibanez's most recognized designs — thin at 19mm at the first fret and just 21mm at the twelfth, with a flat profile that keeps your hand relaxed even during extended playing sessions. The bolt-on construction gives it a tight, focused attack while making it easy to service down the road.
The jatoba fretboard adds its own character to the equation. Reddish-brown and naturally dense, jatoba brings a crisp high end and rich midrange that complements the neck's speed-focused feel. Twenty-four jumbo frets, offset white dot inlays, and a 400mm (15.75") radius round out a playing surface that stays comfortable from open chords all the way up the neck. Nut width is 43mm — right in the sweet spot for a 6-string.
Scale length is a standard 25.5" (648mm), which keeps tension and intonation consistent with most other guitars in your collection. No surprises — just a familiar feel with Ibanez's characteristically flat, fast neck profile doing its thing.
Dual Quantum Humbuckers and a 5-Way Switch
The RGA42EX packs two Ibanez Quantum humbucker pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — both passive, ceramic-loaded designs that favor tight low end, fast note definition, and a punchy midrange. They're well matched to the guitar's hard rock and metal character, handling high-gain tones cleanly without turning to mush.
The 5-way lever switch gives you more than just the basic neck/bridge/both options. You can also dial in the neck humbucker in parallel, or blend the bridge side of the neck pickup with the neck side of the bridge pickup — useful for adding texture between full-humbucker tones. A single volume and tone knob keep the control layout clean. The output jack is a side-mounted ¼" stereo barrel type.
The F106 Hardtail Bridge
No trem, no floating bridge, no tuning stability drama — the F106 fixed bridge keeps the RGA42EX locked in tune even through aggressive picking and bending. Each saddle is independently adjustable for intonation and string height, with 10.5mm string spacing that sits comfortably under most picking hands. If you've ever wrestled with a floating trem setup, you'll appreciate how simple and reliable this is.
Black hardware throughout — bridge, tuners, knobs, switch cap — ties the whole look together and keeps the aesthetic cohesive against the dark burst finish. The Ibanez die-cast tuning machines are straightforward and reliable for everyday playing.
