The Ibanez SR has been the go-to modern bass for players who want something lighter and faster than the old-school classics — and the SR1420B is the series at its most refined. You get an African Mahogany body capped with a Flamed Maple top in Caribbean Green Low Gloss, a combo that gives the instrument a striking, exotic look and a warm, focused voice. The body is slim and contoured the way SR basses always are, which means long gigs don't punish your back.
Under the hood, Ibanez packed in Nordstrand Big Break pickups — passive soapbar-style humbuckers that pull off the neat trick of sounding big and meaty while staying clear and defined. Pair those with the onboard 3-band active EQ and you have a wide tonal palette on tap, from deep, thuddy fundamentals to punchy, cutting mid presence.

Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Top edge body dent near waist. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. Tonewoods That Work Together
The body combines an African Mahogany core with a Flamed Maple top. Mahogany brings natural warmth and sustain to the low end, while the Maple top firms up the attack and adds definition to the upper frequencies — a pairing that's well-suited to a wide range of playing styles and genres.
The neck is a 5-piece Atlas-4 construction using Panga Panga and Purpleheart, reinforced with KTS™ TITANIUM rods for long-term stability. The fretboard is also Flamed Maple, finished with 24 medium frets and Ibanez's Premium fret edge treatment for a smooth, snag-free feel all the way up the neck. The 34" scale and 38mm nut width keep things comfortable and familiar for standard-tuned four-string playing.
Nordstrand Pickups and Active EQ
The Nordstrand Big Break pickups sit in a soapbar footprint but are built around a split-coil design — you get the full, focused character of a split-coil with noiseless hum-canceling performance. Both the neck and bridge pickups are passive, feeding into the Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band active preamp.
That preamp offers independent bass, mid, and treble controls, a 3-way mid frequency switch that lets you dial in 250 Hz, 450 Hz, or 700 Hz as your midrange center point, and an EQ bypass switch that drops the signal into a passive circuit — with the treble pot then acting as a global tone control. It's a flexible, player-friendly system that covers a lot of ground without getting complicated.
Hardware and Build Details
The MR5S Mono-rail bridge mounts each saddle independently to the body, which reduces sympathetic resonance between strings and improves energy transfer for better sustain and note definition. String spacing is 19mm, adjustable ±1.5mm via the saddles. Tuning duties are handled by Gotoh machine heads, and the nut is a Graph Tech® BLACK TUSQ XL®. All hardware is finished in black.
The bolt-on neck joint keeps the construction familiar and serviceable, with a neck finish of oil for a fast, natural-feeling back-of-neck surface. Body finish is Satin Polyurethane, which gives the Caribbean Green Low Gloss its distinctive, low-sheen look.
