A Fretless SR That Lets You Really Sing
There's a reason fretless players always say things like "once you go fretless, you never go back." Sliding into a note, bending a pitch mid-phrase, coaxing a little vibrato out of a held tone — it's a different relationship with the instrument entirely. The Ibanez SR370EF brings that experience in a package that's light enough to wear all night and fast enough to keep up with whatever your fingers want to do.
Built on the SR platform that Ibanez has been refining for decades, this fretless bass starts with a solid maple body that keeps weight down without sacrificing resonance. The 5-piece Maple/Walnut neck gives you a stable, stiff backbone, and the Jatoba fretboard offers a smooth, fast surface that's well-suited to fretless playing — with white dot position markers so you always know exactly where you are on the neck.
If you've been curious about fretless but didn't want to spend a fortune on a first experiment, or if you're a seasoned player looking for a solid gigging fretless without the boutique price tag, the SR370EF is worth a serious look.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Missing paint near nut. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Body and Neck: Light, Fast, and Built to Last
The SR370EF's maple body is shaped in Ibanez's signature SR contour — slim, sleek, and comfortable against your body whether you're sitting or standing. Maple gives this bass a snappier character in the mids and highs compared to alder or basswood, which means your notes cut through a mix with clarity and definition rather than getting lost in the low-mid mud.
The 5-piece Maple/Walnut neck runs the full SR4 profile: slim front-to-back, with a thickness of 19.5mm at the first fret and 21.5mm at the twelfth. It's genuinely quick under the fingers, and the multi-piece construction helps it resist warping and seasonal movement better than a single-piece neck would. The 34" standard scale keeps string tension familiar if you're coming from a fretted bass, while the 12" fretboard radius stays comfortable across the full width of the neck.
Nut width comes in at 38mm (about 1.496"), and 19mm string spacing at the bridge gives you comfortable access for fingerstyle technique or slapping without crowding your right hand.
PowerSpan Pickups and Active 3-Band EQ
Two PowerSpan Dual Coil pickups — one at the neck, one at the bridge — form the tonal engine of this bass. The exposed pole pieces are designed to produce a stronger signal and boost high-frequency response without rolling off the low end, which translates to a tone with real harmonic detail and dynamic range. Both pickups are passive, feeding into Ibanez's active Custom Electronics preamp.
The 3-band EQ gives you hands-on control over bass, mid, and treble frequencies, and the 3-way Power Tap switch adds another layer of versatility. Tap Mode puts you in single-coil territory for a punchy, articulate sound. Series Mode delivers full humbucker warmth and body. Power Tap Mode blends the two — single-coil clarity on top, humbucker weight on the bottom. For a fretless bass, this flexibility is genuinely useful: you can dial in a mellow, upright-adjacent voice or push it toward a more aggressive, modern tone depending on the room and the song.
Hardware and the Fretless Fingerboard
The Accu-cast B120 bridge anchors everything in place with extra-wide string slots that accommodate a range of string gauges. The saddle design ensures consistent directional contact with the bridge plate, which helps sustain and intonation stay solid. Cosmo Black hardware finishes the look cleanly, complementing the Brown Burst finish without drawing attention away from it.
The Jatoba fretboard is a smooth, dense tonewood with a reddish-brown character. On a fretless, the fingerboard matters a lot — it's what your strings are actually vibrating against — and Jatoba holds up well to roundwound strings while giving you a playing surface that's comfortable to slide across. White dot inlays at the standard positions keep you oriented without breaking the clean lines of the instrument.
