Lightweight Alder Body with a Comfortable, Balanced Feel
The MDM body is sculpted from alder — a wood known for its balanced tonal character, solid low-end presence, clear mids, and articulate high-frequency response. Ibanez kept the profile lightweight and ergonomic, so it's not going to wear you out over long sets. The contoured shape also gives you smooth access to all 24 frets without the body getting in the way.
The bolt-on neck uses Ibanez's Super All Access Neck Joint design, which reduces the body material at the heel for easier reach into the upper register. It's a small thing that makes a real difference when you're up in the higher positions.
Roasted Maple Neck with a Rosewood Fingerboard
The roasted maple neck is heat-treated to improve stability, moisture resistance, and tolerance for temperature swings — useful for any bass that's going to travel. Ibanez shaped it into their MDM4 profile with a satin polyurethane finish, which feels smooth and fast under your hand. The neck measures 20.5mm at the first fret and 22.5mm at the twelfth, so it's on the slimmer side without feeling too thin.
The rosewood fingerboard runs a 12" radius with 24 medium stainless steel frets. Stainless frets last significantly longer than nickel and stay slick under your fingers for years. The 1.5" nut width and 19mm string spacing at the bridge are right in the comfortable middle of the road for four-string playing. Luminescent side dot inlays make it easy to see your position on a dark stage.
Delta S4J Pickups and the Sonitech S Active Preamp
Two Delta S4J single-coil pickups sit in the neck and bridge positions. These are voiced to deliver a crisp high-end attack, punchy mids, and a tight, focused low end — the kind of clear, articulate response that sits well in a mix. The hum-canceling design keeps noise out of the equation.
The onboard Ibanez Sonitech S Preamp runs a 3-band active EQ with individual bass, mid, and treble controls. A push-pull switch on the master tone knob lets you bypass the EQ entirely and run passive when you want a more organic feel. The real party trick here is the Hexa Mid system — a 3-way mid-frequency switch that gives you access to six distinct midrange frequency points across two banks (H and L), with the mid boost peak ranging from 250Hz all the way up to 1kHz. That's a lot of tonal flexibility from a single bass.
