This is a five-string, multi-scale bass with a 37-to-35-inch fanned fret design that balances string tension across all five strings in a way a fixed-scale instrument simply can't match.
Built as part of the Ibanez Bass Workshop line, the BTB605MS pairs premium tonewoods with advanced electronics to give players a wide tonal palette and a genuinely comfortable playing experience. The Solar Eclipse Matte finish gives it a sleek, near-blackout aesthetic that looks just as serious as it plays.

Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed FINISH FLAW ON TOP BODY ABOVE BRIDGE AND BRIDGE PICKUP. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. Neck-Through Construction and the Multi-Scale Advantage
The BTB605MS is built around a 5-piece maple and walnut neck-through design, reinforced with graphite rods for long-term stability and resistance to environmental changes. Neck-through construction means the neck runs the full length of the body, contributing to longer sustain and seamless access to the upper frets — no heel bump to fight through at the 15th fret and beyond.
The multi-scale layout spans 37 inches on the low B string down to 35 inches on the G string. That extended scale on the B string tightens up the bottom end considerably — clearer fundamental, better intonation, and more articulate attack on the lowest string. The angled zero fret and BTB5 neck profile keep the feel natural across all positions, even as the frets fan.
The bound Panga Panga fretboard offers 24 medium stainless steel frets plus a zero fret, with a 15.75-inch radius and abalone dot inlays. Stainless steel frets are harder than nickel and hold their shape longer, which means less fret wear over years of heavy playing.
Okoume Body Wings and Tonewood Story
The body wings are crafted from okoume, a wood known for its bright, open tone and light weight. Paired with the maple and walnut neck core running through the center, the tonal result leans toward clarity and note definition — the kind of articulation that translates well in dense mixes. Okoume keeps the overall weight in check too, which matters on a five-string you're wearing for a full set.
The neck heel and body contours are shaped to keep upper-fret access smooth, with cutaways that let you reach the highest positions without the bass fighting you. Everything about the construction points toward a player-focused instrument built for real-world use.
T1 Pickups and Active Electronics
Two T1 humbuckers sit in the neck and bridge positions — passive pickups with individually mounted, height-adjustable coils. Each coil can be set independently for nuanced tone shaping, and the rounded pickup profile doubles as a comfortable thumb rest, a practical detail for fingerstyle players. The T1's deliver tight lows, punchy mids, and clear high-end response.
The Ibanez Custom Electronics preamp runs a 3-band active EQ — bass, mid, and treble — with a 3-way mid-frequency switch that toggles between 250 Hz, 450 Hz, and 700 Hz center points. That lets you zero in on exactly the mid range that works for your context, whether that's cutting through a loud band mix or pulling back for a smoother studio tone. An EQ bypass switch engages passive mode, with the treble pot acting as a passive tone control in that mode.
Controls include a master volume (push/pull for EQ bypass), a pickup balance knob, and individual bass, mid, and treble controls. The MR5S Mono Rail bridge offers 18mm string spacing, adjustable ±1.5mm, and all hardware is finished in black.
