A Whole Lot of Guitar for the Price
The Yamaha Pacifica PAC112V has been earning its reputation the old-fashioned way — by being genuinely good. It started as a collaboration with Yamaha's Los Angeles custom shop, designed around what working players actually need: reliable hardware, a comfortable neck, and enough tonal flexibility to handle a rehearsal, a gig, or an afternoon of noodling in the living room. In Black, it looks sharp without trying too hard.
At the heart of what makes the PAC112V tick is its HSS pickup configuration — two Alnico V single-coils flanking an Alnico V humbucker at the bridge — paired with a push-pull coil-split on the tone knob. That combination gives you five pickup positions to start and the ability to split the humbucker into a single-coil voice, all without having to rewire anything or add extra switches.

Body and Build That Punches Above Its Weight
The PAC112V is built around a solid alder body with a gloss polyurethane finish. Alder is a popular choice for this style of guitar — it's lightweight and resonant, with a balanced tone that doesn't skew too bright or too dark. The double-cutaway body shape keeps upper-fret access comfortable, and the contoured edges mean it sits naturally whether you're standing or seated.
The neck is maple with a comfortable C-profile and a satin polyurethane finish — that satin feel is noticeably more comfortable under the hand during longer sessions than a thick gloss coat would be. The bolt-on construction keeps the neck joint solid and serviceable.
Fretboard and Playability
The rosewood fingerboard runs a 13.75" radius — slightly flatter than a vintage-spec radius, which most players find easier for bending and lead work without notes choking out. Twenty-two medium frets give you plenty of range, and the 25.5" scale length sits right in standard Stratocaster territory, offering familiar string tension and feel.
The nut is urea at 41mm (1.614") wide, which puts it in standard single-cutaway territory. Dot inlays keep the fretboard clean and readable on dark stages. Die-cast chrome tuners hold tune reliably during normal use.
Pickups, Controls, and the Coil Split
All three pickups in the PAC112V use Alnico V magnets — the same magnet type you'll find in many much more expensive guitars. The bridge humbucker is mounted directly to the body rather than the pickguard, which Yamaha notes helps capture more body resonance for a fuller, thicker tone. The five-position selector switch covers all the standard HSS combinations, and a master volume plus a push-pull master tone control rounds out the layout.
Pulling up on the tone knob splits the humbucker into a single-coil voice — a genuinely useful feature that essentially doubles your tonal options. The electronics are passive, so no battery to worry about.
Bridge
The vintage-style tremolo uses heavy block saddles for improved sustain and a more substantial feel than thinner pressed-steel alternatives. It's a functional, usable vibrato system — smooth arm feel with good return-to-pitch stability for moderate use.
