Big Jumbo Sound, Plugged In and Ready to Go
There's something satisfying about a jumbo-body acoustic-electric that just fills a room — and the Ibanez AJ70M1E Artwood does exactly that. Built around a solid Sitka spruce top and an Okoume body, this guitar produces a wide, full-bodied sound with clear highs, focused mids, and genuine low-end presence. Whether you're strumming open chords at a campfire or plugging into a PA at a local gig, it's ready for both.
The AJ70M1E is part of Ibanez's Artwood series, which aims to blend traditional acoustic construction with practical, modern features. This one hits that mark with a sleek Black High Gloss finish that looks sharp on stage or in the practice room.
If you're looking for a jumbo acoustic-electric that covers a lot of ground without asking a lot in return, the AJ70M1E is worth a serious look.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Crack in heel binding. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
A Top That Earns Its Keep
The solid Sitka spruce top is one of the AJ70M1E's most important features. Sitka spruce is the industry's go-to top wood for good reason — it has a wide dynamic range, responds well to both light fingerpicking and hard strumming, and opens up over time as it's played in. Having a solid top at this price point is meaningful; you'll hear and feel the difference compared to an all-laminate instrument.
The Okoume back and sides contribute a warm, woody character to the overall tone. Players often describe Okoume as a lighter-weight alternative to mahogany, with a somewhat similar tonal profile — present mids and a smooth, round low end. Paired with the Sitka spruce top, the result is a balanced guitar that rewards both soft playing and confident strumming.
A Neck You'll Settle Into Quickly
The AJ-profiled Nyatoh neck is comfortable and familiar, with a nut width of 43mm and a 25.5" scale length. The 15.75" (400mmR) fretboard radius feels fairly flat, which tends to suit players who like relaxed chord fretting without a lot of curve. The Laurel fretboard is smooth and easy on the fingers, with acrylic block inlays that look clean and understated.
The chrome die-cast tuners run an 18:1 gear ratio, giving you fine, precise tuning adjustments. Ibanez Advantage™ bridge pins make string changes quicker and more secure — a small but practical detail that you'll appreciate on a regular restringing day.
Onboard Electronics That Make Amplification Easy
When it's time to plug in, the AJ70M1E uses an Ibanez T-bar undersaddle pickup paired with the Ibanez AEQ-TP2 preamp. The preamp lives on the upper bout and includes a 2-band EQ (bass and treble controls), a volume knob, and a built-in digital tuner — so you can dial in your sound and stay in tune without reaching for a separate pedal.
Connectivity is flexible too: the AJ70M1E offers both a balanced XLR output and a standard 1/4" output, so you can run directly into a PA, an acoustic amp, or a DI box without any adapters. For live performers especially, that dual-output setup is a genuine convenience.
