A Striking Acoustic-Electric With Okoume From the Top Down
Some guitars just stop you in your tracks before you even play a note. The Ibanez AE340FMHMHS does that with its flamed okoume top in a Mahogany Sunburst High Gloss finish — the kind of figuring that catches the light and draws eyes from across the room. But this isn't just a pretty face. The AE340FMHMHS is built for players who gig, practice at home, and need a guitar that covers all the bases: solid unplugged tone, reliable amplified sound, and a neck that stays comfortable through long sessions.
The AE body shape with a deep Venetian cutaway lets you reach every fret without gymnastics, while Ibanez's A.I.R.port — a precisely positioned auxiliary soundhole on the upper bout — bounces the guitar's acoustic voice directly toward your ears. You'll hear yourself clearly whether you're sitting in a practice room or standing center stage. Add a solid flamed okoume top, X-M scalloped bracing, and stage-ready onboard electronics, and you've got a genuinely versatile acoustic-electric that earns its spot in any working player's lineup.
This is a great match for singers, singer-songwriters, and gigging players who want a cutaway acoustic-electric that's comfortable to play and easy to dial in for any room.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed TWO MINOR DENTS BELOW BRIDGE ON LOWER BOUT. STOPPED BEFORE SAND THROUGH. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
Solid Top, Figured Wood, and Smart Bracing
The AE340FMHMHS features a solid flamed okoume top — not a veneer, not laminate — paired with flamed okoume back and sides. Okoume sits tonally in a warm, mid-forward territory with a present brightness up top, making it a lively and responsive choice for fingerpicking and strumming alike. The flame figure carries through on the back and sides as well, giving the guitar a cohesive, striking look all around.
Underneath the top, Ibanez's X-M bracing pattern uses scalloped X-bracing alongside carefully placed tone braces and finger braces. The goal is efficient vibration transfer from the strings through the bridge and into the body — resulting in clear lows, focused mids, and crisp highs with a wide dynamic range. The AE body shape itself is designed around balance and comfortable ergonomics, and the deep cutaway opens up the upper register without crowding your strumming arm.
A Neck Built for Long Sets
The AE340FMHMHS uses a one-piece nyatoh neck with Ibanez's Comfort Grip profile — a Thin-C shape with rounded fingerboard edges that reduces fatigue during extended playing. The rosewood fingerboard spans 20 jumbo frets on a 25.6" scale, with special abalone and maple inlay markers. The nut is bone at 44mm width, and the saddle is compensated bone — both quality materials that contribute to accurate intonation and resonant tone transfer.
Jumbo frets make it easy to fret notes cleanly with minimal pressure, and the rounded fingerboard edge means there's no sharp edge to dig into your palm during big chord stretches. The neck also joins the body at the 14th fret, and the cutaway extends your reach well past that. Scale length of 651mm (25.6") sits in a comfortable middle ground — not as long as a dreadnought-standard 25.5", but still providing good string tension for standard tuning.
A.I.R.port and Onboard Electronics
The A.I.R.port is one of those features that sounds gimmicky until you actually play a guitar that has it. It's a secondary soundhole on the upper bout, engineered with an internal structure that reflects and channels sound waves toward the player. The practical result: you hear the guitar's natural acoustic voice more clearly while playing, which makes a real difference when you're on stage without a monitor or just playing quietly in a small room.
For amplified performance, the AE340FMHMHS carries an Ibanez T-bar undersaddle pickup routed through Ibanez Custom Electronics with independent volume and tone controls. Output is via a 1/4" endpin jack powered by a single 9V battery. Gold die-cast tuners with an 18:1 gear ratio and Ibanez Advantage bridge pins round out the hardware — the latter designed to keep pin and string locked in place during string changes.
