A Body That Actually Fits
Ibanez designed the AEG body to address one of the most common complaints about classical and nylon-string guitars: they can be big, deep, and awkward, especially for players who came up on steel-string acoustics or electrics. The AEG50N keeps the width but reduces the body depth considerably, which means it balances well on your knee and won't fight you during long practice sessions.
The soft Venetian cutaway is a practical addition for a nylon-string guitar. Classical guitars traditionally don't include one, so having upper-fret access opens up melodic territory that's typically off-limits in the genre. The 25.5" scale length (647.7mm) and flat fretboard radius are consistent with classical playing expectations, while the Nyatoh neck — finished in satin — keeps things smooth under your thumb during position shifts.
Tonewoods That Do the Work
Spruce is the most widely used top wood in acoustic guitar building for a reason: it delivers clear note definition and responsive dynamics whether you're playing softly or driving hard. On a nylon-string guitar, that clarity keeps individual notes from blurring together during fingerpicking, which matters a lot for the music this guitar is designed for.
The sapele back and sides add warmth and a bit of fullness to balance the spruce's brightness. It's a tonewood that behaves somewhat like mahogany — present in the low-mids, with enough projection to carry in a room without amplification. The walnut fretboard and bridge contribute a focused midrange character, and nylon strings (.028–.043 gauge, Ibanez ICLS6NT) are factory-installed so it's ready to play right out of the case.
On-Board Electronics: Simple on Purpose
The Ibanez AEQ-TTS preamp is refreshingly straightforward. Volume and shape — that's it. The shape knob moves your tone between a natural center position (balanced, acoustic-sounding), toward fat and powerful on one end, and bright and crisp on the other. It's a single knob doing the job of a three-band EQ without the menu-diving.
The T-Bar II undersaddle pickup picks up signal from each string individually to even out the volume across all six, which is particularly useful on nylon strings where the wound bass strings and plain treble strings can behave very differently in terms of output. The LCD onboard tuner means you can check your tuning between songs without reaching for your phone or a clip-on.
