A Different Take on the Auditorium
Most acoustic guitars come with a spruce top, and that's fine — but Ibanez went a different direction with the AAM140EMHS. The solid African mahogany top brings a warmer, more focused voice with strong mids and a natural richness that pairs beautifully with its Auditorium body size. It's a combination that rewards both strummers looking for depth and fingerpickers who want clarity without harshness.
The AAM140EMHS is part of Ibanez's Advanced Acoustic series, built around a freshly designed Advanced Auditorium body shape — slightly reimagined from the classic Auditorium to improve low-mid response and body-to-weight balance. Whether you're writing at home or stepping up to a mic, it holds its own in both roles.
It's a comfortable, well-featured acoustic-electric at a practical price point, and this one's a B-Stock unit with a cosmetic flaw near the 12th fret — specs and playability are fully intact.
This item is a B-Stock guitar sourced directly from the manufacturer. It is new and has never been previously owned. The photos shown are of the exact instrument you will receive. Before shipment, our licensed technician will inspect and professionally set up the guitar to ensure it is playing its best. During our inspection, we noticed Flaws on side of fretboard. (see pictures) Please note, these may not be the only cosmetic imperfections. As a B-Stock instrument, there may be additional minor blemishes that are small in nature and do not affect playability or performance.
A Solid Top That Changes the Conversation
The solid African mahogany top is the centerpiece here. Mahogany as a top wood is known for punchy low mids, warmth, and a dry, focused character — less overtone wash than spruce, more directness. Ibanez pairs it with laminated sapele back and sides, which keep the guitar stable and consistent across humidity changes while contributing a woody brightness to the overall tone.
Under the hood, Ibanez's proprietary X-M bracing system was developed specifically for the Advanced Auditorium body shape. It's engineered to maximize vibration transfer and deliver a wide dynamic range — from soft fingerpicked lines to strummed chords — with a tonally balanced result. The scalloped rosewood bridge and bone nut round out an acoustic platform that punches above the price point.
Neck and Playability
The neck is one of the most player-friendly details on this guitar. Ibanez used a Thermo Aged African mahogany neck — a drying process that stabilizes the wood and lightens it slightly — finished in satin for a fast, smooth feel under the hand. The Low Oval Grip profile is approachable for most hand sizes and sits comfortably for long playing sessions, whether you're pressing chords or running single-note lines.
The rosewood fingerboard has a 400mm (15.75") radius and 20 nickel silver frets, with a 25" scale length and a bone nut at 43mm. Rounded fretboard edges reduce any sharp-fret bite at the neck binding, a small detail that makes a noticeable difference in extended play. Tuning duties go to chrome die-cast machines with an 18:1 gear ratio for precise adjustment.
Plug In and Stay in Tune
When it's time to amplify, the AAM140EMHS is equipped with an Ibanez T-bar undersaddle pickup feeding into the AEQ-TP2 preamp. The preamp lives on the guitar's upper bout and gives you a 2-band EQ (bass and treble) alongside an onboard chromatic tuner — handy for a quiet, stage-side tune-up without stepping on a pedalboard. The output is flexible: both a standard 1/4" and a balanced XLR jack are included.
There's also an A.I.R. (Acoustic Information Response) sound port on the upper bout that reflects sound waves back toward the player, so what you hear while playing unplugged is more of what the guitar is actually doing. It's a thoughtful detail for a player who wants to monitor their own tone accurately without cranking up a monitor. The guitar runs on a single 9V battery for the preamp.
